I got a free generator last summer, never ran it, its small, an older coleman 2200 watt one.
friend said it didn’t run. I tore into it sunday night and I found out why it didn’t run,
the intake valve took forever to close on its own, it was stuck/sticking
the gas in it is junk and stinks, the tank has so much crud in it.
I have heard about the vinegar and bb’s for cleaning, also have heard about people using 3/4 or 1" drywall screws too.
has anyone done this for a smaller tank like a generator/lawnmower? Any other way to do this?
its not a tank that runs a line to a carb, the carb mounts to the top of the tank so I just cant use
any kind of tank as a replacement,
its metal, definitely looks like rust and sludge inside, the gas is yellower than the first morning piss after drinking a 30 pack of budlight the night before
if you can seal it up, you can fill it with vinegar and some screws/nuts/bolts/etc and wrap it REALLY TIGHT with blankets until it barely fits into the drum of your dryer, then run the dryer on low or no-heat for 30mins or so and be amazed what comes out. If you can’t seal it completely, there’s a few other options…you can whip up a backyard electrolysis bath with a plastic tote, some water, washing soda, and a battery charger. OR, the laziest method (may take a few runs) is to fill it with cola and leave it out in the sun for a day to bake…the acids in coca-cola will lightly work at the rust and sludge, but night take multiple treatments.
There are a lot of products out there that can acid wash the tank for you, then seal it.
Remove the tank and associated lines, clean the intake, and clean the tank… maybe add an in-line filter if you are unsure if you got all the gunk out of the tank.
