i should have said around 750. my b.
Actually Porsche would love it if everyone was driving a Turbo. They will sell as many as people have money for which is why brand new '03 models were sitting on the lot discounted to $89k in late '04. They are a MASS PRODUCTION company out to make money. They dont give a rats ass about exclusivity anymore.
Porsches shouldn’t be exclusive, they’re drivers cars…they shouldn’t be rich fuckwad mobiles
Not an apples to oranges comparison at all, since in most motorsports, they tend to run in the same class. Not to mention GM has, for many years now, used the 911 as their benchmark for performance when they are developing each new Corvette.
:word: In an ideal world, a performance-oriented car would be less expensive than the average family car, minivan, SUV, etc, because the people who really want them are younger, single and don’t have as much money.
economics classes would do you wonders.
the reason you can pick up a 996 ANYTHING, including turbo, for dirt cheap compared to 993. a huge increase in the % they built. not just orders, or projected sales…they built a tn of the 996 body styles. hence why the market is flooded right now and why you can pick up one CHEAP. many p-car enthusiasts complain about this. porsche does not, cuz they made their money selling new streetable performance cars that are daily driven, trackable within reason, comfortable and reliable to an extent. they could give two fucks what the market determines the resale to be…they are building a new body style with all the same above criteria, that is getting tons of buzz, including people talking on internet forums, and will most likely sell huge numbers again because this car being streetable, and performing better than its previous offering, and…oh shit i have used too many commas and lost my train of thought.
basically they will build lots, but imo hopefully slightly less than they did with the 996, and also i hope they dont parts share again with the boxster. even though i think the boxster is a better car if you could get more power from it, i dont like the idea that the next offering in the line has some of the same parts.
dude i got a 98 on my economics midterm and a 99 on my final. i know economics…what is porsche doing by having all of these 996 sitting around overstocked and underpriced? not making money. yea exactly, and flooding a market to drop their value even more. thats why your cars value drops instantly when you buy it, unless it is a vehicle with a low build/production rate…making it more desireable/worth more/ultimately creating more income for the manufacturer
only can MASS produced items bring in more money when the price is lowered(i.e. cell phones becoming cheaper and cheaper) but this isnt an economics thread…
…its a thread about why porsche is so good at innovating sports cars and creating vehicles which keep out-doing eachother.
I dunno man…a wife and kids can really suck a lot of money outta you too!
ok, sorry to detour your thread. you can have it back. but not until i say you are totally wrong. porsche is making money. want examples?
cayenne. everyone said they wouldnt do it, couldnt do it, shouldnt do it. they did and the vehicle is in its proposed 4th year of production? whats that you say about low production numbers, higher price and making money? ford thunderbird what? two years? what happens after the company sells the car off the lot is completely irrelevant as long as the next generation sells.
boxster hardtop aka caymen. it has been ten years since the boxster platform was proposed. for a platform this old to get as much buzz as it is, and sell as well ten years later with the only true difference being a hardtop…you dont do it when your company is broke, thats for sure
there are grey area to what we are talking about. i think you are talking strictly high end, which porsche is not known for, never REALLY has been. when talking about bugatti, ferrari, koenigsigg etc, what you are saying is mostly true. the only way it applies to p-cars is the carerra gt. i am looking for the numbers now and cant find anything concrete but i dont think porsche is making money with that car. which wasnt the point i hope you realize. sorry again to jack your thread
lol, don’t talk economics with him,
+1
One thing that occurred to me is that Porsche seems to succeed despite their designs, not because of them. Especially with their choices of drivetrain layout and suspension design.
Porsche deserves a lot of credit. I personally never liked the 911 or the derivatives. But they have been sucessfully producing high performance cars and racing through the lean times as well as the fat times. Along with Ferrari, they have been the most true to their own vision of all manufacturers. Honorable mention must go to Lotus and Corvette (not GM or even Chevy, but the guys responsible for the Corvette). There are reasons beyond marketing and hype why certain makes capture the imagination and command prices beyond what the product is “worth”. People can see that a company like Porsche is made up of car nuts, they feel the affinity and it shows in the product. Sure, some of them are duds (914) and they are not to everyone’s taste (me and the 911, again). But my hats off to them.
this is a philosophy that i have adopted. oh cool u have three car lengths on me at the end of a 1/4, but my car is a better all around car. (this is what i will be saying someday when i do have a or many porsches)
i can agree to a certain extent with that. i believe alot of it has to do with their heritage, and back when their designs were revolutionary, alot of buyers these days are from that generation. my uncle with his boxster “i have always wanted a porsche”
“Better all round car” is a common theme among LOSERS. Kind of like saying to yourself “my car has more hp/ci” as you breathe the other guys exhaust
I am delighted to see this much Porsche talk on what is virtually a drag forum.
Carry on.
dude, what has crawled up your arse since i got here? you like to make this stupid little comments when it is my father who got got ECMC to gross over $1million dollars in profit TWO MONTHS STRAIGHT, for the first time in their history and for the first time ever they have actually made money rather than lose it…
…ooo and his last hopsital went from nothing to top 50 in the country…yea my family and i stupid, dont talk to us about anything. do me a favor and be an asshole somewhere else. you dont know me or my father. so eatshit…
