i hate all of you

100% bullshit.

In PA if you go to a notary to complete the transaction they will issue a temp tag right then and there.

Eh I think he is correct I bought a pa car and if I recall they do something weird there

Johnny Tran make it back to the land of bro?

I don’t know the penalties involved (I’m sure someone does) with the DMV for attaching plates to another vehicle besides the one for which they were issued. And suppose someone does do something malicious. How long do you think it’s going to take a scumbag attorney to file a suit making the plate owner some way responsible for aiding in the crime?

Xwalkerx knows all about the dangers of doing this!

That’s not what’s going on here though. The plates are to that car and they’re valid until the title change gets submitted.

Slapping plates on vehicle B that are registered to vehicle A is a whole different story with a lot more risk.

Ha, dude still has his plates lol.

ugh yeah. i learned my lesson.

when i traded my a4 for my m3 we each used the plates that were on the car to drive back on. we both had put insurance on our new cars and had proof of it so i felt a bit more comfortable about it but i should have trusted my gut.
now let me start by saying he seemed like a very standup guy. total military guy who was stationed at a naval base in VA and couldnt bring a car without plates on the base…yada yada yada…to me i could give a shit about rolling home with no plate as ive done several times in the past and had zero issue.
anyway the agreement was we would send each other the plates that week and everything was golden. so i sent his plate back that week and then bam all contact stopped…
after 2 weeks i went to buffalo PD after he wouldnt respond to my texts/emails/calls and filed a lost/stolen plate report and thought it was all good. i took that to the NYDMV and i was able to cancel my ins and ready to put the whole disaster situation behind me…

WRONG

3 months later i get a letter from the city of baltimore saying i ran a red light and a camera caught me so i had to pay $150 or some shit. so i immediately contact baltimore and after 20 min finally get a human being on the phone and advise that i had the plates stolen from me and had them give me the fax number to the court so i could send proof. well sent it all in to them and they still said im on the hook because they dont recognize what the nysdmv AND the city of buffalo police department gave me as enough proof that the plate was not in my possesion any longer.

my original intention was to just blow it off and not pay it until i received a letter from a creditor then refused to let it hurt my credit so i just sent them in a check.

so eventually i did a bit of digging and found out the the dickhead navy guy sells my a4 to some guy in baltimore and lets the new owner take my plate to drive around on.

:ham:

if anyone is interested in fucking with the baltimore guy feel free…
i found his number from the FS thread on a subaru or honda board the navy guy posted

Typically, the insurance follows the vehicle. In your case, since the car is still titled to you until he goes to the DMV to transfer the title, I wouldn’t chance it with your plates on it.

Is the said person from out of state? Why not get a temp tag good for 30 days?

Well this is all I need to know to stop myself from trusting people to use my plates in the future…

well he sent me a pic of the plates on the kitchen counter shipping them this am hopefully i am in the clear…Lesson learned not worth the anxiety

recieved trackign number…

Things I would never do:

Allow someone to drive home on my plates after buying a car from me.

Things I have done:

Drove home from Florida in an M5 I purchased on someone’s plates.

I’ve had 2 random sellers just offer their plates for me to drive the cars back from Rochester, so I gladly accepted. One I insured first, the other was still insured in his name. I just mailed them back the next day. When sellers can only meet with you after normal business hours things can get tricky. Like someone else said, I’d only allow someone to take mine if I knew them personally and would let them borrow my car.

I have left someone 1 of the 2 plates, I would just go to the DMV the next day, turn in the 1 plate I have to get it removed from reg. then ins. and that plate winds up being useless to them.

X…

smart move, allowing you to still have full control.

Still seems like this leaves you exposed to what Walker went through.

I let the buyer drive with my plates to Illinois…seemed like a decent guy, time was tight and everything turned out fine.
