what do you have for backup power there? pretty impressive.
what is this, IRC?
/uptime
We have 30ish min of battery back up power for the whole data center…but the generator kicks on after about 30sec…
I have to shut this thing off though its work load is being virtualized
we definitely have several that have been up for over 400 days
edit: what work load? lol LOAD THAT BITCH UP!!

Outgoing Fax Server, sends out a few thousand faxes per day and requires ZERO maintenance. I love this box.
Lack of generator power FTL. My longest running servers here have been up since the last power outage that lasted more than the 5 minutes or so we get from battery… which was over the winter.
I would probably have a lot more boxes with that kind of uptime. However, some IDIOT contractor doing work in the datacenter decided that he should hit the Emergency Power Off button!!! Yeah, almost every hospital/out-patient system went down
hahaha woops
sorry bout that, WHAMMY
One of our dev boxes…I just checked a few servers. I swear I saw nearly 800 one time, but I couldn’t find it this time around. We’re doing a lot of hardware changes and upgrades though, so the machine could have been replaced…

Yeah, I sit like 10 feet from the woman that is the director for datacenter operations.
Help Desk calls me
HD: hey, is there a network outage
me: wtf? no. I can double check though
[long pause]
me: yeah, we might be having issues, I can’t get a response on any of the boxes
[Sudden Scream in the background from the director:
WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN THE POWER IS COMPLETELY OUT IN THE DATACENTER!!!]
(still on phone)
me: uhhhh, yeah, I think we have a problem
Windows servers are teh suck, esp for gaming. They take up too many resources.
I’d be more impressed if it had any type of load average. Hey look this computer that does nothing has an uptime over a year - SWEET!
I have Xenservers running 15-20 VMs(webservers, sql servers) and the load averages are only 0.09
You don’t really see the load average jump up with dual quad cores…
A little better.

The load isn’t insanely high, but this is a very critical server. We just have a cluster of them for the application to spread out the load.
how many cores on the box?
that load average means nothing without the core count
18:04:07 up 332 days, 19:29, 1 user, load average: 0.02, 0.01, 0.00
Not as high as some of my previous servers, but they went off to the VZ node.
No clue. I don’t even know if it’s virtual or real or if it’s in our local or remote datacenter. I only deal with the application that lives on it.
cat /proc/cpuinfo
