Live Green, Go Yellow

Plus, they only make cars E85 compliant to skirt other regulations.

You couldn’t be more wrong

the real price we pay for fuel now is way more than the real price of fuel in the 50s and 60s, this is a chart that is in real terms.

BTW, crude oil fell below $60/ barrel today

i know that there was a spike then in gasoline prices. but i dont think that at that time america had the means to make any switch over to e85 vehicles. The change from fossil fuels to a man made fuel has to happen at some time. i do think that the rise of gas prices will affect how the consumers will push for these cars and for the fueling stations.

so the price doubled from the late 70s to the mid 90s. how much do you think the value of the dollar changed?

True, but pressure was put on companies to produce more fuel efficient vehicles.

The prices are shown in REAL terms(that means adjust for inflation), they are adjusted for inflation

this is not a graph that shows the nominal price, Do you really think that the nominal price of oil in 1981 was almost $60?

ZD,
real vs. nominal

The reason to run a gas/ethanol mix and not straight ethanol (not methanol, BTW) is for cold starting. Ethanol makes less hp than methanol but a little more than gas. And has been pointed out it is less sensitive to mixture. It has less energy content per volume than gas, so a larger volume is required. Compared to gas, E85 needs ~2 times as much fuel. So, range is reduced compared to gas and unless the $/gallon is a lot less the cost/mile will increase. Absolutely, you could run more boost with E85 than with current pump gas.

As far as the environmental effects, depends on exactly what you are analyzing. But it does burn clean.

Those rich guys make enough in one year to buy just about every corn farm in the country, i’m sure they are not too concerned. There is more to this puzzle than thermal units and larger gas tanks or reduced milage. Talk to any race team using alcohol, corrosion is a big issue, and most cars made cannot be converted, due to corrosion and seal damage. So replace EVERY car in the country, most fuel storage and delivery systems have to be redesigned and take into account that while it is somewhat renewable, we strip nutrients from the soil for every crop, and you can only put so much nitrate and potassium in the soil before your out of the crap. So its a temporary fix, but not a permenant one. Its really about a short term stick it to the rag heads, but in the long run we will suffer. If we really want to step forward, we need to embrace nuclear energy and use that for hydrogen production, that is a permenant fix, but no liberal wants a nuke plants, but we need them badly. Thats my view

if this takes off, how long do u suppose it will take for every major car company to be producing these cars. seems like gm really wants to start spreading these, will every other car company follow?

A-Fucking-men Nukes are the future, accept it and grow up.

That’s crazy talk!
All we need to do is change hemp laws!

ok, so then it just now is getting to be as bad as it was in the late 70’s.
(yes i can see that it was worse during the gulf war)

oh, and from your link
“Real Interest Rate = Nominal Interest Rate - Inflation”
it doesnt take into account that the amercian dollar wasnt worth 2 squirts of piss back at that time. (not that its worth much more now)

I guess its really hard to account for absolutely everything,

But it is a good representation of the oil history,

I dont want people to think that oil was $20/barrel nominaly in the 60s

im picking up what your throwin’ down

(that was cool guy lingo… pretty sweet huh?)

so uhh… are there any stations around the area that carry it?

i think they are all in the mid west

just did a search… PA has bunch, as does Ohio, WV, ect, ect

none in NY or any of the north eastern states though… I find that kind of funny actually…

Wisconsin was the first state to really endorse E85.(They grow corn in Wisconsin)
I would imagine Iowa and other neighboring states would support this too.

wow, this chart looks funny today…

what is with your necro posts today
