And the new MacBooks cease to give me a wood today.
Nice improvements, but it’s a notebook. Woooooo
I’m excited…
I get a decent 3D chip, LED display, a case that won’t crack, a nicer touchpad, and it will cost me the same as what I paid for my current macbook.
I’ll call that impressive for the price. I wonder what dell gets you for $1200.
yeah, just saw that… I’m amazed. Probably explains the price hike.
dumb question, why are they offering 2 different GPU’s on the same computer?
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 256MB
I wonder if this is any hint as to what nvidia has in store for the future (SLi independent of the GPU, much like ATi has done?). I wonder why they didnt go with the new GTX 200 series since they could of got twice the power out of one gpu (could be power related too I guess)
considering you can get pretty much the equivalent for ~$800 for a PC…i wouldn’t call this an amazing deal.
lol figures… just lost a bunch of $$$ in apple stock
They dropped at the announcement of the new ipods as well.
that figures
show me.
and for those trading: you make money when there is risk / you know something that other people don’t… everybody and their mother knows how these apple releases work at this point.
Sony has been offering this with their notebooks for a while. Dell too.
It lets you select at bootup which graphics card you want to use to help conserve battery. Nothing new to the industry.
heh, I wonder why they do that, versus just throttling down the GPU to save power? (under clocking)
So can they use them in parallel or is it one or the other?
2 notebooks with everything you listed above.
no… as soon as I put LED on the nice 13.3 dell it was > $1500
or you can ditch the LED, and go with a larger screen for cheaper
it’s not really apples to apples (no pun) anymore. You can find similar spec’d notbooks for a HUGE range of different prices depending on the manufacturer and/or retailer.
The new macs aren’t a bad deal in comparison, but most laptops are a waste of money (except for maybe the eeepcs and a few others). I find it odd that a machine with half the potential of a desktop machine, costs twice as much
There is no such thing as “waste aluminum” since it can be recycled infinite amounts of time without material waste.
If they have a good system in place to create bricks of aluminum to machine, as well as melt them down back into bricks…
why not? This is apple… the company that is not only growing, but seems to charge WAY too much for everything they make.
I can say “maybe” to this rumor, thinking of the variables. It’d be pretty cool to have a one-piece shell…
One or the other.
it costs me a lot more to install a computer in my living room, garage, bedroom, kitchen. so I prefer to just have a laptop and a server in the basement.
and I don’t buy your “remove the LED” argument for one second… the apple has bunch new desirable features at a hard to beat price…
Engadget has a bunch of pictures of the macbook. I can’t tell from looking at it, but it does look very very very neat and tidy. Perhaps it was machined afterall?
yeah, it is (well, at least it’s made from a brick… weather it’s an actual solid piece versus an assembled unit machined from one piece I have no idea). Check out TUAW
boo, thats lame
They showed images from the video at presentation. It is made from one chunk of aluminum.
