I currently have a 5 year old mac book pro that is finally starting to slow down. What would you guys suggest I get next? Not looking for the top of the line as this base one has served me so well for years. Is the retina worth it? Seems like a gimmick to me.
Go look at them at the store. Retina is not a gimmick, it’s crazy quality output. The retinas do suffer from temporary burn in/ghosting issues. Many will disagree with me but I’ll stand by this given my sampling size…Apple hardware quality has gone down quite a bit.
Ended up buying the 13" macbook pro with retina etc. Loving it so far. Blows my old macbook away.
<3 macs
I got the 15.4" Macbook retina when it first came out 2012. Pretty awesome. However, for the price you can obviously buy something competitive in the PC world (but if you don’t care, and just want the mac, then go for it)
I’ve also got a Macbook Air, but it’s like a dinky iPad with a keyboard attached. Go for the Macbook 15". The 13" was too small for me. (I use it for school and trolling)
The retina is great but there are programs and websites that still aren’t '“good enough” for it’s resolution. I run Microsoft Office 2011 (free from school) and it’s literally blurry on my retina.
I have also run some performance intensive games on my Macbook with no real issue (Half Life 2 series) and also had parallels for a while (to use windows programs) and never had a problem.
The only really issue I have with it is that the metal can be scratched/scuffed easily if you type with a watch on or other jewelry and you simply need to be careful with it because one drop at a bad angle can take it out.
Good luck!
