Honest to god-if you’re not mechanically inclined or have a lot of patience then stay away from the DSMs and RX7s. I own both and just about once a month I want to junk the headaches. But, I love em. :headbang

A GSX eclipse is your best bet with 5g if you want performance…4g63 you can’t go wrong with only 5grand… p.s a rx7 that will run is 12k plus or more.
GSX is the AWD turbo version of the Eclipse, correct? Can’t go wrong with AWD Turbo.

you can easily go wrong with a GSX. If not maintained or modded properly then it will be a nightmare. And most DSMs have been owned by idiots at one point in time. Best bet is a honda. If you blow the motor then you can get a replacement for $14.55
haha, yea. the gsx can be a nice and fun car, but its tough to tell what its like inside the motor and tranny and such. it could have been in the hands of a complete moron and be barely running and you wouldnt know till 4 months in owning it. if you are prepared to do a lotta work, grab the nicest one u can find and just wait till things blow up on it and replace as needed. on the plus side, theyre easy to mod and they make damn near everything aftermarket for the damn things
I agree. It’s really hard to find a GSX or TSi AWD that is a mod virgin and was properly maintained.
That’s all I can really say about them. They’re attention whores and you absolutely can not skimp on the maintenance. I’ve already paid dearly twice over for “waiting until I have x amount of $”.
I have a 96 Honda Prelude for sale. Pretty much MINT except for very minor Honda rust on the rear quarter panel. only has 86K miles. METICULOUSLY maintained by the first owner… I have every receipt from day 1 of the car!!
Black/Black, 5 speed, moonroof, upgraded Honda alloy wheels, upgraded Honda OEM CD Player, OEM Fog lights, power windows, A/C, cruise. NO POWER LOCKS (only thing that pretty much sucks about the car.)
Only aftermarket part is the AEM Cold Air Intake.

yea thanks everyone with looking for a car the guy with the 300 zx and prelude if you could send me pics that would be great would like to take a look at them and i the gsx are nice cars but i hear bad tranny problems with them…
i like the 300zx on here, but the prelude is super clean to. either way it looks like you get a great car.
i no the prelude is nice but i use to have one with a h22 in it and i think thise one doesnt…

Little out of your price range, but I think it could be what you are looking for.
it is almost impossible to find something for 5 grand that will be fast and maintainable if you have absolutely no mechanical skill. for 5g you can get a 95 gsx with 100k or more on it which is about as reliable as whatever you could build yourself out of parts you find in your garage
+1, stay away from modded DSM unless you enjoy buying parts and using “your other car”
