Commisoner’s Cabin at chestnut ridge. Log cabin on the edge of a lake hidden in the park. Total privacy. If you ask someone who works there, Im sure they would unlock the gate for you or book it for the day
Definitely don’t go to the eternal flame. You’ll likely have a crowd of people watching it all go down.
This is where I went: http://www.nyfalls.com/taughannock.html
Don’t go on a holiday though if you don’t want a lot of people.
really? last time I went to the flame my gf and I were the only 2 there…
Everytime I go there’s a group of people. What day did you go? I imagine that during the week it’s probably empty.
Great news, gave her the Camera last night (D60) and she loves it! She has been taking pictures of everything! So it looks like Watkins Glen is going to be where i pop the question! However, I have never been there… just a couple more questions.
1)Does anyone know which entrance I should use? or have any recommended spots to check out while we are there(in park)?
2)Anyone have a winery they recommend? I looked up Wineries in Google and there is about umpteen thousand… She enjoys Blush and Rieslings mostly if that helps… (this is my first winery visit for the most part). Do wineries require a reservation or anything if there is just 2 people? This is probably different for every winery…
Thanks again for all additional advice!
for #1: Are you guys lazy? If not, use the bottom entrance and do a round trip. If so, use the top entrance and take the bus for $1 back to the top. You might want to consider venturing off the normal trail at the top to get some alone time though. There’s always a bunch of people there.
No clue on wineries, though.
Dr. Frank’s is a fantastic winery, especially for rieslings. No winery requires reservations for 2 people.
Dr. Konstantin Franks, srsly it’s beautiful and FREE to taste wine. They have a very good selection as well.
Propose to her in her natural habitat…
The kitchen.
Not lazy, bottom sounds good, we are trying to make a full day out of it so that could work nicely!
I lol’d so hard… so wrong, yet so right.
We went to Watkins Glen National Park, she got to play with the camera all day and when she was flicking some pics i knelt down and when she turned around… She said yes. I proposed on “Lovers Lane” lol how lame (the little secluded outlook off “Lovers Lane” if you have ever been there)… we had a quick picnic where i proposed so she could regather herself. Then we went off to “Bully Hill” for a wine tasting, tour and dinner. The forecast for the day was overcast and possible showers… but it turned out to be a great day full of sunshine and close to 70’s. Thanks for all the suggestions and help.
Well, at least she didn’t say no.
Haha, Congrats. How was Bully Hill?
Bully Hill was interesting… bunch of really weird people work there… i wanted to take her to Dr. Konstantins Winery, but she saw Bully Hill first and was immediately drawn to it. So i went with it. Overall it was a great day!

^^ My sister and her family were there yesterday, she told me about the green water. Apparently it was water tracing dye… similar to that used by the military for locating downed pilots in the ocean or whatever… just like in Top Gun!
Congrats man, I proposed outdoors in as a wet snow started to come down lol.
