B5A4.
whats funny is everyone is suggesting the a4, and i started a thread about looking for an a4 before i read through these posts.
Heres the problem all the a4’s that i can find in a quattro have 150k plus miles, where do you draw the line on miles for an a4?
Im assuming the 2.8 is more reliable than the 1.8t but i could be wrong
My A4 has a tune and burns absolutely no oil at 92k. The 1.8t’s are longitudinally mounted and easy to work on.
Don’t go for a cheap B5 S4 though, if you don’t already know you probably aren’t willing to deal with them.
Maintenance is key. A “cheaper” B5 most likely will need turbos, belts, wheel bearings, etc in the near future. A well maintained B5 with a good maintenance history may cost a bit more up front but save you thousands on the back end. (stupid advice as this is true for all cars)
My B5 just rolled 168k and is knocks on wooddoing ok.
If you buy an Audi take it to Jason Dale.
i dont want and s4 at all, its not needed. A regular a4 will do me just fine. AWD heated leather 5 speed and im sold. Just seems they all have like 150,160,170,180 thousand miles.

my a4 1.8t has 163k and the motor is super solid, however everything else you can think of needs fixing
sounds about right
My 2.8L 12v B5 left me with around 170k. Ran like a top and had virtually no problems for a (at the time) 11 year old car. The 30v are an awesome motor too, but from what I have read a little more of a pita.
It was a total beast in the snow with plain old all seasons, probably got low-mid 20’s in gas mileage, and has just enough pep in its step to not leave you totally bored.
The only major repair needed while I owned it was a power steering rack, other wise just routine maintenance.
^this.
big e has a b5 30v as a daily right now with 196k on it. runs like a champ.
nice to see you posting on here man hagen
Eric’s is a 12v. 30v weren’t until facelifted B5’s in 1999. The 12v is the same used in the late model 90s that are borderline bulletproof
touche sir.
I know you said no Nissians but you might want to check out the 2002/2003 Maxiam 6 speed 3.5l loaded. So nice!
these are not 5k or under…great suggestion but they are at least 9-10k…thats too much
