looking to buy a saturn L300

I posted this on saturnspot.com but they don’t seem too helpfull. answer any questions you can.

I didn’t see a section for the L serise so I think this is the most aproprate section.

I work at goodyear and had the pleasure of driving a L300. it had tan leather interior I though it had heated seats but i could be mistaken. and when I was on a testdrive verifying a repair of the brakes I noticed that the car was pretty peppy. I then asked the customer about the car and she took me for a hell of a test drive (aparently a enthusiest) the car has a good amount of power and I think it is right up my alley.

my summer car is a 94 turbo taurus SHO so when I change over to my LS2 it doesn’t do anything for me. I also noticed that the L300 engine sounds a lot like the SHO engine that I love so much.

  1. My question is where can I get a year by year run down on changes to the L300.
  2. is there a list of options for them when i’m looking.
  3. I have been looking at them a bit and I noticed that they don’t come in MTX, can they be swapped? the ATX that they have are they prone to failure and when?
  4. is it the same tranny used in the L serise 4cyls?
  5. is there any tuning software for the L300 enigne incase I get the urge to boost it later on
  6. 195hp 195 ftlb on the 3.0 V6?
  7. how are they on gas?
  8. do they have any major problems I need to look for when i’m driving one?
  9. I noticed the brakes are small are there any upgrades available for the L300 or for my SL2?

off topic. I broke a valve (a chunk missing) on my SL2 so I swapped a 01 enigne in it. I have my old enigne completely dissasembled (this means you odn’t get any bolts) in the trunk of my SHO if anyone wants it. $25 (or buy me lunch) and its yours (get it the hell out of my trunk please). The heads should be serviceable again once the one cyl3 exhaust valve is replaced (did not check for flatness). and rotating assembly and block is in good condition. also comes with 01 intake and 96 sl2 exhaust manifold.

I got a couple of these things as rental cars over the years when they first came out.

Pretty nice saturn, but nothing compared to the new stuff.

New stuff = Expensive
L300 = Low resale value and inexpensive

He seems to know a lot about Saturns.

Edit:
And I do see that the L200 options a 5spd wonder if you can do a swap? A quick ebay search always gives a good Idea on Pricing…

They’re based on the old Opel Vectra platform.

www.edmunds.com has pretty good model year overviews and also options. Consumer reviews too.
