3000gt swap help?

well since everyone on here is swaping motors and doing things a little different ive been thinking about swapping my 3000gts 6g72 out and possibly doing a v8 fwd. im looking for suggestions and input on what type of motor/trans i can possibly use? thanks

Umm…

northstar maybe?

why stay fwd? awd conversion + v8 would be hot. impala ss used a v8 for a while, fwd i believe. not sure what motor it was though

any other swap suggestions are helpful but i want to stay with fwd or supercharge my n/a , thanks

the Impala SS in the mid 90s had a RWD LT1, and then the newer ones used a supercharged V6 on a FWD platform, and the current generation uses a very small V8 ina FWD configuration and that same setup is also used on the current gen Monte Carlo SS.

that aside, i would say that a 3000GT is not the car to be doing this with. a friend of a friend has a 3000GT that he is rebuilding, and it seems as if the motor thats in there barely fits, so i dont really see how you’re going to stuff a V8 in there without a TON of custom work and a lot of money. im guessing you would have to modify the suspension quite heavily because the V8 and its transmission s gonna be a decent bit heavier than whats in there now. you really would have yo know your stuff to pull it off too.

LS4. Its the V8 that is used in the GXP. So you can probably use the engine and tranny.

heres some pic of the only 2 i know swapped

well those are both RWD

the LS4 thing jeeves suggested MIGHT work, but i still think its gonna be a LOT of custom work and cost a LOT of money. in all honesty, if this is something you think you can do in a few months for $XXXX, then dont even bother. anything like that is gonna be a project thats gonna take you at least a year and cost you a shitload of money. its one of those deals where if you win the lottery and cant think of anything else to spend your money on, then pay someone else to do it and it it would be something nice to have.

im not trying to talk you out of it, but i just think you really need to think about how much is actually going to be involved in doing something like this. you said the above ones were the only 2 that you knew of, so think about it: if it was easy to do, then wouldn’t you think there would be more than 2 of them?

i would try the SC kit before you go swapping a v8. i used to have a 94 SL but i gave up on the whole fwd idea. one of the guys in batavia has a sohc with a supercharger kit, if he still has it. made decent power for what it is.

thats why i want to do it…if it comes down to it which it most likely will i would do rwd. i just want to do a diff. swap everyone is doing 6g74 swaps, which is a 3.5 mitsu. motor easy swap. id ike something with a wow factor.

just out of curiosity, how much money do you have to throw into this?

and why on earth would you want to stay FWD???

i dont want to spend more than 6k

good luck with that. ive kinda learned that when doing major stuff to a car, you always end up spending a LOT more than you budgeted. if those cars u posted pics of are people on a forum, PM them and ask them how much thier motor swap cost them. trust me, if u figure out this whole thig will cost you 6 grand, the save 12 grand before u start on it. then, if u really can do the whole thing for 6 grand you have another 6 grand in cash laying around to do whatever else to the car.

ive got a northstar motor and trans from an aurora, and a small block 350 for platforms if i decide to use one of them

motor, tranny, rearend, driveshaft…you are already over your 6k

thats why i wanted to do the northstar…ive got connections to get that stuff under market value so that im not worried about its the fab work and bumps in the road that im worried will cost me

any other motor suggestions?.. not a v8

i was in a similar boat once…had an NA version of a car that has a cooler tt brother…and got antsy. Dude…just realize that the car is NOT a good platform to work with…i was stupid to dump all the money i did when i coulda just bought a TT and saved myself a lot of time, money, hassle, frustration…etc…

Sell your car, and buy something that comes with a V8…there’s tons of fbods EVERYWHERE all the time…or, just buy a tt 3000GT…
If you want to do something cool…buy a blown RX7 (believe it or not…they do exist :stuck_out_tongue: ) and put a V8 in it…there’s writeups everywhere on how to make that work…and it’s a lot easier to take on a project when the information is readily available…

Everybody else is thinking it…i just said it…and i’m allowed to say it, because like i said…i was there, and i made the mistake it looks like you’re planning on making…

If you’re worried about the price then you should not be looking into totally custom motor swaps.

As for your wow factor, I can’t speak for everyone but I’m impressed by customs that are different because they are in some way better than most, not different just for the sake of being different.

Take Newman’s BMW project for example. I’m impressed because he’s putting a hell of a motor in good chassis, paying a lot of attention to detail while doing it, and should have a solid performer when he’s done. If he had just cobbed in some heavy V8 because he could barely afford it I’d think the project was way lame.

put a 440 dodge motor in it and do rwd thats what i would do.

Whenever someone asks a question like this, all it means that you do not have the skills, knowledge, or money to accomplish it.

Wanting a FWD v8 in an already heavy as fuck car just makes you look even worse. I’m banning you from your own thread.
