When i brake, my pedal goes all the way down, it takes a few pumps for it to start getting its pressure back…this is while the engine is on.
When the engine is off and i press down the pedal, it goes all the way down the first time, then about 50% down the second time, 75% the third time, so it basically continues to stiffen up.
I’ve read a few past posts and came to some conclusions:
few people had this problem and it was either the master cylinder or a simple brake bleed, but my problem is a bit different.
I bought some engine seafoam treatment off Nik awhile back and i finally had time to use it. When putting it through the vaccum lines it told me to pour the seafoam in while the car was running. I then realized that i released all the vacuum pressure, im pretty sure thats the problem.
So im wondering how i can get vacuum pressure back in the lines.
If im totally off with this diagonsis, let me know what you think, i really need this car to run a.s.a.p
Your always going to have vacume, it is created in your intake manifold. If you put the line back on then your good. (even though that has nothing to do with the breaks) Your master is going or you have a leak some were. Make sure you brake fluid is still full.
yea, i thought i had a leak somewhere but i checked most lines, appears to be no leaks yet. I checked my fluid and its still full, same level i left it when i last bled the brakes.
Yea i was thinking it might be my master…how much does that go for??
they’re cheap. I think a new master is about $90 from CT … probably way cheaper elsewhere. There is a rebuild kit too, which is likely all you need.
The master itself is cast 1 piece. There’s a pushrod inside the master cylinder with rubber seals and a spring. That’s what moves when you push the brake pedal. If the rubber on the pushrod loses its seal, the master will push air instead of fluid. Check the front of your booster right where the MC bolts to it. If the paint is flaking off the booster or it looks rusty, you’ve found your problem.
Yeah man, i had the same thing when i purchased my car, it was my master cylinder. I think it was $90 but then when you bring in your old mastercylinder they give you $20 for it.
Takes about an hour or two to change.
Good luck, (I’m guessing this is what you wanted to talk to me about last night?)
