Low ideling when shifting to Neutral

Recently i’ve noticed my 90 S13 is ideling really low when coming out of gear and staying in neutral.
Whenever I come to a stop or let the car slide in neutral my RPM drops to as low as 300, and stays there unless I rev a little. I haven’t gotten a chance to check anything yet, i’m gonna go through the usual suspects tonight:

Sparks
Wires
Distributor Cap

Anything else I should check?
Has anyone else had this problem?

DRE

I used to have that same problem with my supra.
At times it would even stall.
I had to change my throttle position sensor and
then it was fine. But this is last option as TPS is expensive.
Well for Toyota anyway.

Yeah, my Toyota needed to have the TPS changed as well. After checking your list, take a look at the TPS.

Andrew (Idiot Box) Had the same problem he changed his TPS’s and that did the trick.

Also Try Adjusting it a Bit, my car had that whack idle problem a while back and i was adjusting it to FSM Spec and that still was less than a mm off so i fiddled with it by hand and bygolly it worked, my crazed idle problem was fixed.

I checked the plugs, one was sot, I changed distributor cap and rotor. The car doesn’t shake as much s it used too (that’s the cap i guess), worked fine for 2 days, but now it droped all the way to 100 rpm, almost stalled… IAA/IIA??? TPS??? maybe i’ll have a mechanic chek it out.

fun times coming up

DRE

Defentatly Asjust/Check the TPS that was both mine and andrews problem

Also check this site they have alot of helpful hints.

Any luck with the ecu codes Dre?

After fideling with tring to get the ECU out for about 45 minutes I gave up for the day. I will try again tonight.
On the weird side, driving in to work this morning i had absolutely no problems.
OT, should I be able to start my car if the gas pedal is fully pressed?!!? I did that this morning, car started.

DRE

The car should start and some cold mornings thats whut i have to do but becarefull once the car kicks over not to still be holding it because that will cause the engine to REV with no oil pressure and not sufficient lubrication on everything.

if u want we can meet up on wed. at that meet at longo’s on york mills and i’ll help u out.

^^^ thaks, i’ll be there by 10 30
Hopefully I manage to do something aboutit today.

DRE

np man, drop me a message on MSN tonight if ur succesful, i’m curious to hear the result.

the legend continues…

So I decided to clean my Throttle body and TPS today after another failed attempt at pulling the ECU out (I think i’m looking at this whole think wrong). Anyways, throttle body was a piece of cake as anyone would have guessed, took the car for a spin and whoila, smooth driving, deeper intake pull, all is good. But i decide since I’m at it to pull of the TPS and give that a clean, all is gret, I take it off, rub it a little put it back on and kablamoo, everythig got shot to hell.
Now i’m ideling from 300 to 1600 rpm in neutral… when pulling out of gear RPM slams down to 300 and a few seconds later starts going up and stops at around 1500 (dumb as kid in his rabbit besides me starts reving as well - OT I know) and to top it all off I somehow snapped one of the screws holding the TPS to the Throttle bnody, with half of the screw in place…

Oh and i’m running rich now.

Having a wonderfull day.

DRE

I fixed the TPS connection, drilled out the broken screqw and put in a new one… but my car is still ideling all over the chart. It’s not as bod, only drops to 500 but it goes up to 1700.

I think i’m better off just putting in a SR.

DRE

SolutionL Clea throttle body and TPS, make sure TPS possitioning is correct when remounting it.

Thanks IdiotBox
