Due to someone in my family inheriting some unwanted property, I’m about 99% sure I’ll be buying a fixer-upper in Lower Burrell…One thing…
I’ve never even been to Lower Burrell.
Is anyone on here from that area? How’s the neighbourhood? School district? Any other remarks about the area? I’ll be looking at the house this week, and I’d like to go into this with as much knowledge as possible. If it’s a scary area, I might just use it for rental income…but if it’s a decent area, I’ll probably live there for a few years. Thanks in advance.
Lower Burrell is nice DEPENDING on where. If its off of the rt366 boarder of allegheny county (kinlock area where the New Ken Driver’s center is) then some of that area is less than desiarable. Up by Leechburg and 56 intersection is the area where its usually nicer.
it’s not too bad inside… it’s a 2 bedroom, with a living room + a family room… i’ll probably convert the family room into a third bedroom… I figure I can rent out two of the bedrooms to friends who’d like to get out of their parents’ places.
as for the paint/siding… i’m think going to go dark red, and get rid of most of the bushes. i’m tearing out all of the carpet too and putting in some hardwood floors… a guy in etna is giving me a really good deal on the floors, including installation.
Burrell is a nice school district. A HELL of alot nicer than Arnold/New Ken (Valley).
House looks like a nice way to start out young. I bought one alot similar, except that it was already fixed up and pretty much done… But starting young and getting a house now is the way to go.
If you need the Furnace looked at before winter, let me know. I’ll take care of ya.
not bad dude. its def gonna be a lot of work. i just bought my first home and the yardwork and shit is kicking my ass. we need pics of the inside of it man.
oh and if you dont mind me asking what type of deal are you getting on the hardwoods. pm me cause im trying to find some to replace the bad ones in teh downstairs of my house.
i dont think red would look bad but you def have to get rid of that shrub growing up to the roof. atleast you have room to put in a garage though. i say go for it
i looked at it twice today… once with amanda, and once with a good friend who’s a contractor… aside from normal shit (paint, carpet, furniture, etc…), all it really needs is some plaster cut out and replaced (about two square feet of it) and some appliances.
Bravada442: Thanks for the offer about the furnace. The furnace looks like it’s older than time & the house was built around it. I’ll definitely call you up to take a look at it as soon as it’s mine. If it’s too archaic, I’ll want to replace it before winter.
Hannibal: As for the garage, the third bedroom used to be a garage. With a little bit of work, it could be a garage again… I’m not sure if I’ll bother though. I may just put a carport or something at the end of the driveway.
And as for the hardwood floors, i’ll let you know. I might actually just buy that Pergo shit and lay it myself. There’s some asbestos tile in the kitchen, laundry, and bathroom and I think I’m just going to pour some floor-leveller and Pergo over it… that’s safer than trying to remove it all.
laminate flooring :ugh2: if i was you id build a 2-3 car in the back yard and extend the driveay to it. yards are overrated. i have a garage designed for a model t… its getting turned into an extension of teh dining and living room
