Okay, I really hate bragging about my economy car made by General Motors, but this Cobalt SS w/ the Quaife LSD is by far the best 2wd vehicle I have evar driven in the snow.
Has anybody else given this setup a try in wintry conditions? It’s totally different than a FWD with a gay open differential. It’s also REALLY tough to get stuck unless you get unrealistic with your driving adventures (such as off-road trails through the woods).
I had this setup last year but I never got the chance to drive it in more than a couple inches of snow on some side roads. But after several ski trips and just driving around in general, it’s like a whole different experience.
my shitty 1993 civic is the best thing I’ve driven in the snow. 175/50 all season tires, drove through an unplowed dirt road(9-10" of snow) on Wednesday that leads to our salt pile and it just trucked on through. Stopped got out to start my truck, backed up and parked on the other side of the little area. Didn’t even spin.
My best car ever was either my 99 mazda(all seasons), or my red jetta coupe(snows), both of those cars took me wherever I wanted to go, neither of which had an LSD, my current jettta has a lsd and i honestly don’t even notice a difference in the snow.
I only notice a difference now because I drove a shitty 07 Cobalt LS in the snow for a month while my car was in the shop and I could tell a difference when I got mine back. You notice it when you’re starting from a stop in deeper snow.
Both fwd cars I had were great in the snow, even on bald tires.
Last winter when I traded in my Elantra the tires were beyond shot but I still made it thru the worst part of the winter on them.
I drove a winter on shot tires in my '96 Neon too.
Neither car had an lsd. Ill take a FWD car over a RWD anyday in the winter but I prefer my 4wd.
