I’m lookin in to buying some long tubes and i cant really decide. What would you guys recommend stainless steel or coated steel?
what are the difference of price? i would go with ceramic coated ones to keep underhood temps down.
coatings are a waste of money imho.
They never stay on and rust off…
If you want to dish out some money, get stainless…
if you are on a budget, just get regular uncoated mild steel.
All out… kooks… roughly 1200 for headers and ory
budget… pacesetter… last time i checked… a little under 300 for just the headers + an ORY
best bang for your buck… LPP… $650 for stainless WITH an ory
I would personally go with lpp or kooks
The coated ones would be pacesetters with the jet hot coating and the stainless ones on ebay. Both about $500
you have to choose function or looks. ceramics will start to rust a little near the flanges within a year but will stay cooler which is better if you plan on working on your car before it cools down.
coating is not going to keep you from burning your hands on a primary or anything else for the matter
it does cool down faster tho. I never had a problem with any of my jethot coated headers. The shiny finish may fade over time but it still worked well
I’m 99% sure it’s hit or miss with Jethot. I’ve heard good things, and I’ve heard bad things from them.
I had a jet hot coated ory on my lt1. more than 3/4 of the coating flaked off within a year and a half. my hooker headers were rusted halfway up the primaries as well.
the coating alwayhs comes off. i have had all brands of coatings and the results are the same. esp if you keep car outside and or drive it a lot
stainless is best if daily driven. if not get the mild steel ones and have AMF do the black ceramic coating to help the longetivity of hte headers
^^ X2. Any coating will come off after time. The only way to keep them from rusting is to get stainless.
ceramic coated headers are not good on fuel injected cars. yes they look some what nice, but keeping the temp in the header allows for bad detonation.
either get uncoated, its not like they are going to rust away in a year, or get stainless steel.
I dont know about the detonation thing, as exhaust gasses can get very hot on lean tunes but still not have detonation. I think its more in the timing your running and how efficient your head chamber is
Problem with any uncoated mild steel or stainless, is that you can blue the hell out of them if your exhaust temps are high. I had my collector extensions get blue like that. I was running lean when first tuning the motor and it got very hot. The ceramic coat held up just fine although it starts to fade from its ‘like’ chrome finish.
