SO i have gathered that I need a new optical drive for my 2008 white macbook. Would anyone be willing to tackle this project for a reasonable price if I purchase the optical drive ahead of time.

really nothing to it, except the small screwdriver (00). Check out ifixit.com. They pratically have everything on there with detailed instructions and pictures…
if your still not comfortable… i’d be more than happy to assist you.
If you don’t mind I’d rather have you tackle it. I tend to break delicate things when I try to fix them and then it ends up a big mess… I’ve got gorilla hands that makes it more difficult.
