Major boat carnage (Lake Erie)

yikes! Hopefully no one else was hurt. Poor boats, they can be replaced though. :meh:

Damn thats crazy. This summer has been rough.

Wow

Another reason to store your boat on a trailer. Growing up we kept our boat in the water and every big storm you worried about it. I slept through most of this storm knowing my boat was safe and dry sitting in my garage.

To the boating crew, be REALLY careful in the river for the next few days because there is going to be a ton of debris floating around.

Free boats! I wonder what all the people that live along that stretch thought when they looked outside and saw that.
That does suck balls though…

:word: The river sucked last night. I was dodging full size trees. Hopefully it’ll be a bit better today. It’s not as muddy, but still brown.

my dad’s friend lost his boat in the storm too, they went out to go look for it yesterday. maybe you saw them depending on what time you were up there, they left from sturgeon pt around 3:30-4 probably

he never called me to tell me if they found it though :meh:

he had just bought the boat and had no insurance on it

edit: I guess his boat was apart of all of these, but it had ended up floating down to sturgeon pt and was recovered by the coastguard/tug boat thing undamaged

Glad it was ok. Now go kick your dad in the nuts and tell him if he had time to put in the water he had time to get it insured.

I remember the last time this happened I spent 2 weeks down there working at RCR yachts pulling out boats and bringing them back to the yard and spending on some boats almost 2 summers to get them all completed. One marina was completely wiped out and never reopened because of the storm.

The worse part of it no one saw it coming because the storm was so far way it was like a wall of water coming down the narrow creek as I was told. Some boats owners that were near were cutting lines and riding it out to the lake hoping to miss all of the debris. But the number of boats from the last flood was much worse. I feel bad for the owners of the boats it was a bad season for boating already just turn worse.

Yeah this is like 5 minutes from my house. I saw some boats getting hauled outta Snow’s Marina last night on flat beds. Jay, I saw some boats that were on trailers that got destroyed as well.

Flooding ftl.

and i thought hearing about rushford was bad with 12 or so boats slamming up against a dam. loads of boats and garbage and docks, jetskis… all sitting in the lake in the middle, against the dam… yeah, ridiculous.

nice pictures!

My sister has a cottage on the beach where all these boats washed up. They slept out there Sunday night and woke up to this mess. She thought she saw a cottage floating in the water, but got her binoculars out and found it to be a full sized dumpster floating in the lake like a boat. She also said they have like 70-80 foot trees that washed up on shore

The trees on shore are huge. I wanted to stay out there on Sunday night but everyone else wanted to come home. It would have been crazy to see them all floating out. And yea, i don’t think this was as bad as the time it happened about 10 years ago.

My good friends boat was part of that diaster

pretty shocking to see the boats still tied to the docks. I was thinking about joining him since they were going to stay down there for the week.

i think my dad would be pissed if i kicked him in the nuts for no reason lol

it was his friend’s boat

this is why I love being cheap and trailering my boat. A lot less chance for sinking/destruction.

god that waters ugly, tampa ftw

So I ended up going to my cottage this weekend, great weather, about time for some 90 degree days

well anyways, here are some picture of pictures someone took while the water was higher, and after words. none of the pictures were taken when the water was at its worst, sorry for the blurry ones, not because of me, but there pictures were pretty blurry

All part of the stimulus package guys don’t worry!

Cash for floaters?

that persons boat got totalled out, its a yamaha twin engine jetboat, hes trying to buy it back but probably wont be able to. there jetski i found out had been flooded from being under the water the whole time the river was flowing high, it also covered the whole engine bay in mud!

another friends boat has 10k worth of damage, destroyed the windshield, beat the boat up, and there dock i thought was no where to be found, but i think we spotted it on someone land out near the middle of the lake.
