Major boat carnage (Lake Erie)

did they get the jet ski to start…as long as just water went into the engine it shouldnt be to bad to start…what kind of jet ski is it

it was a rxp, and i honestly dont no if they got it to start, i think they started it, but are afraid to run it till they clean it out, like i said, theres mud caked inside the engine bay, and i wanna say on the engine itself. with all the shit that went on for them, they dont wanna chance anything till its all cleaned out and everything is looked over. at least hes a motor head and knows what to do on them.

I’m at sunset right now. it’s in phenomenal shape. It was only the poor side that got jacked up.

yeah, i was surprised they cleaned sunset up that quick with all the trees and branches on the shore, plus all the garbage.

at my cottage we had to cut the engine when we got to a certain point in the river, where we had to drift and paddle other wise we were going to destroy the prop and engine on all the sticks, logs, trees flouting in the middle

Yeah there isn’t much debris here at all. However we did see a refrigerator floating by yesterday out a bit

ok , as long as he knows what hes doing…to many dumb jet skiers out there. in the last week ive seen 5 people suck on thier ropes towing someone and then they flip the ski over in the water to try and get it undone. in the mean time the skis taking in water and the rope isnt going to get undone with out proper tools

cash for sinkers

:rimshot:

lol yep, they are dumb. along with im sure, flipping it over the wrong way, because you know its supposed to be flipped over a certain way, hence the warning on the back side of the jetski that is put upside down so when the jetski is flipped, you can read it right side up.

im the type of person if something end up getting jammed inside the impeller area, im under the water sticking my hand up inside “while it is off” to see what i can try and dig out, if not, that shit is on a dock and lifted up in the back end so i can lay under it! ive watched that happen a bunch of times on my lake with people sucking shit into it and flipping it over! to funny how retarded they are.

Sunset never really got touched. The creek flows out towards buffalo, so the beaches going that way are what go it all. Sunset had very little wood/trees from the beginning.

i was there the day after …idk what kind of susnet u go to but alot of the lots there had massive flooding. i posted pictures of the streets over there. A few huge 20 feet piece of wood were on shore, refigirators, a stove…

A friends “Pride and Joy” is now a “Complete and Total Loss”.

forgot to mention this…

i was at my dads house a day or two after this happened and he said everyone had came down to see if their boats had floated down to the marina

well there was some boat docking company dude that came down with a huge trailor and was trying to “steal” everyone’s boats.

Because the boats had been undocked (or w/e the word is), they are free for anyone to take, as long as there isn’t a person on the boat. But if anyone see’s you getting on their boat and taking it, they can call authorites and you would be technically stealing the boat (because they have proof of ownership, and you have their boat in your possession)

Well this guy ended up trying to take my dad’s friends boat that they were out looking for, along with 10-20 other people’s boats… RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE OWNERS!! Well no one liked that, and he was came after with weapons/death threats and all sorts of shit lol

sturgeon pt marina kicked him out during the day, and then at night we saw him go back down our road to the marina… don’t know if he ended up getting any boats

and the “rescue” boats or whatever were making 200$ per ft of boat after like 10ft or something

Wait, what? Because a boat is floating without its owner it instantly becomes free?

Aren’t boats registered just like cars? They have licenses on the front and inspections and crap, right?

That doesn’t make much sense. How can they prove it was docked or not docked when they took it? I could easily just go to a dock, untie three ropes and boat is now “floating free.” I’ll power it up and take off and if I tell them “Oh, it was floating down the river… it’s mine now.” that’s that?

It just sounds completely false. Stealing is stealing… right? Can anyone confirm that law/rule? If it’s true, that is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. It sounds like a huge loophole for thieves to go to the dock and just steal boats.

Maritime salvage probably would apply since the boats are unattended and in immeditate peril. It would definitely end up in court.

I’ve read much more in depth cases of salvage claims against small boat owners in BoatUS magazine. It’s something any boat owner should have a basic understanding of.

A good example would be breaking down in the Niagara River. It would be easy to argue there was immediate and grave peril to the boat and people on it because of the falls. If someone offers you a tow and you don’t discuss that it is not salvage you could easily end up defending against a salvage claim.

Some better reading about maritime salvage.
