could some metal shards from the grinding of the lock cyl have made its way into the switch?

Nah, when I did that fix I degreased the part, blasted it out with water then brake clean then re-greased it. Probably just bad luck/gm quality.
Thats too bad, nice car! Hopefully you will be problem free from now on.
$270, sounds so cheap. Thats awesome! My dad used to be a tech at Don Davis in the early 90s! Good place
Yeah, and that included 2 hours diagnostic labor so I was happy with the cost. Just nice knowing that my random electrical issue should be fixed now.
Glad you were able to get it fixed fairly cheap.
Are these pretty common in GTO’s? A friend of mine has an 04 and he’s had some issues with the ignition (having to fiddle with the key sometimes to get it started) and lights (staying on all night). I heard these cars can be full of electrical nightmares.
The problem with the key sticking is extremely common in the summer. GM used too soft of a metal for the part and a pin the needs to slide up a ramp when you turn the key eventually makes a dent and jams. GM has a revised part now and not only is the ramp design different it looks like a different material.
Electrically I haven’t heard of many problems though.
