Making a purchase in Canada land

There’s a great deal going on at princess auto for something I want and the exchange rate makes it even better. I heard the best way to make the purchase is just use a credit card because you will get the best exchange rate and not get charged a fee to do so. Is this true?

@bing should be able to answer this for you.

depends on the credit card… both my bank of America cards get nasty fees when im in Canada land.
altho my Paypal Visa is worse… often its just better to take cash and exchange it.

My Southwest Rapid Rewards premiere card has no foreign transaction fees and a dead on exchange rate, I can tell you not all cards are like this, depends on your card.

So no go on the BOA card in Canada, better call And check with the other one.

ya BOA hit me with buck or 2 on every purchase, not sure if its a percentage based. I’m usually only buying gas and food, when we visit my wife’s sister in London, or do a shopping day in Toronto.

I do like that if i forget to inform them im leaving the country they text me to verify that its not stolen unlike my other cards that just freeze the accounts.

Thanks for the reminder. First Niagara froze my card last time as I was trying to pay for dinner at the hard rock.

just use your visa or MC… they have a small spread on the exchange but whatever… you’re dollar is so strong right now you guys should be hunting kijiji for cheap shit to bring back and flip.

when the dollar was at par i was buying shit like crazy down there. i’ve had 2 offers that would put me $1,500 up on my last Rolex buy in less than 18 months.

take advantage of your proximity to Ontario-land boys.

our market for ex-rental cars and trucks is messed up right now because every dealer in the US is buying up here.

You just have money to blow @NYstanger!

I’m suppopsed to ride up to Toronto tomorrow if it’s something small that needs to be picked up.

I just searched your strange version of craigslist (aka kijiji) and really didn’t see much in the way of deals on something im interested in buying…

Same. I have been looking at snowmobiles and pricing is so high that even with the exchange there are no deals to be had.

I think discover had no fees on international transactions.

Bitcoin

the US exchange is propping prices up in Canada because the low dollar blocks the US market as a viable option for us. i’ll use watches again as an example… when the dollar was near parity prices up here on good stuf dropped 15-20% because we could dip into the US and buy cheap. Now that the dollar is poop no one goes to the states to buy stuff anymore.

it’s supposed to last all the way through 2016.

in hail we have had a very difficult time getting US technicians to come up and work because they take the extra 30% discount.

Discover, Capital One, and a lot of travel-related cards and premium ones (with annual fee mostly) have no foreign transaction fees. Google your cards and find one without it.

Yeah Canada is awesome right now. I got 2 grande coffees at Starbucks plus a snack and it was only $9 USD the other day.

… except gas. You should still buy gas in the US.

Wasn’t there something about additives in Canada’s gas was different than NY and shouldn’t swap back and forth? Not sure if it was still out there or not but I thought I remembered hearing you shouldn’t go back and forth.

And I bet you think you should use distilled water in your cooling system…

I only use distilled water when the dealer says my headlight fluid is low.
