Making BEER!!!!

Ok, some asked what its like to make beer. Here is my photo journey in making all that is man.

First you need supplies. This is a simple wheat beer stash. 6lbs of Dry Malt Extract (sugar that yeast like) thats 60 percent wheat and 40 percent barley. Also a boiling bag, and Hops to go into it.

Get a big pot that holds 2-3 gallons, and start your water boiling

Tenting off the area with some tin foil makes for much more effeciency, and keep the lid on. Otherwise you really use up gas. With this method, you can use simmer mode and still boil it for an hour.

The key to beer is keeping stuff clean. You have to sterilize everything. While the water is warming up, mix up some cleaning solution in the fermenter (bucket with tap on bottom, hole in top, and air lock to keep oxygen out of the bucket once its fermenting).

Now once the stuff is boiling, add your DME and Hops in its bag. Boil for an hour.

Cook some hamburger helper too. Men must eat man food when making man beverage.

The new toy, wort chiller.

Now once you 45 min in, rinse the Wort (your mixture right now is called wort) chiller, and put it in the pot so it can sterilize in the boiling wort.

Pull the hops out of the mixture after an hour or so

Turn off the heat, and move the pot to where the water tap is for your chiller (mine is in the laundry room) and hook it up, and run the water low, just enough so the water comming out of the chiller is lukewarm.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/n20junkie/DSC01924.jpg

Rinse your fermenter and all supplies. Put the screen on the fermenter (it catches any of the hopps that escaped from the bag) and fill it with some cold water.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/n20junkie/DSC01921.jpg

Add the wort that you cooled to 80-90 degrees (the cold water in the bucket will do the rest)

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/n20junkie/DSC01925.jpg

Top off the fermenter to 5 gallons

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/n20junkie/DSC01921.jpg

Now get small ammount of the cooled, wort, and add your yeast. This is called pitching, and it wakes em up, without shocking them.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/n20junkie/DSC01930.jpg

Once they wake up, the glass gets all cloudy from the fuckers. They start farting instantly and bubbles of CO2 come up. This takes about 10 min

Not add those happy yeast to the mixture.

Put on the lid, and install the air lock with its water level set. Put it next to other beer. I keep them on a week stagger, so I can have 5 gal a week if I like. This way i can brew friday, and bottle 2 weeks ago beer saturday.

The hardest part of brewing, is getting a cheap stash of bottles that have pry off caps (sam adams are the best) I also have 1 and 2 liter bottles that are the best. It makes bottling easy.

I will add more as I finish. Now who wants to drink beer mmmmmmmmmMMMmmmmmmm.
