I’m curious what will happen if they admit fault say it was a mistake in an active no fly/war zone like I said before the US and other countries have made the same mistake.
NATO can’t do anything to Russia since they have veto power.
The US can’t do anything to Russia outside of sanctions which will end up hurting the international economy more.
I think the bigger picture is what they are after. If Putin really is fueling the fire, this will be proof and it will have come to a point where citizens from other countries have been killed. I think it’s alot different when the US accidentally shoots down an airplane with their own military equipment vs. rebels doing it with either stolen or supplied via Russia equipment.
You are correct, but up until now, it’s been Ukraine’s military planes. Now that a commercial civilian plane is involved, a lot of heads have been turned and I think this might be a time for action. Up until now, everyone has kind of had the “sit back and let them handle it between each other” mentality, other than putting sanctions on Russia.
Although, if the black box really is in Moscow, I don’t see much happening without that data…
A. We can’t afford to.
B. We don’t have a President capable of doing so.
C. We will continue to try and put more sanctions on Russia and slap Putin’s wrist.
As soon as this happened, everyone in my office was said “Eh, unless it affects me, I couldn’t care less about it”. I kind of chuckled and listened to them go back to talking about how they think the guy in Hamburg murdered his wife and then put her on the side of the road and called the cops to report a hit and run. I would guess that’s 75% of people in the US.
There were reports of Ukraine’s fighter jets following this plane prior to it being shot down. The black box may give some insight to the in cockpit voice recordings, if indeed they noticed the jets were near.
I think this is similar to the issue with Syria the US involves themselves enough to prevent anyone from being able to win and prolongs the conflict forever.
It’s kind of like when I was a kid. I would fight with my brother and my parents would let us beat each other up but then when the lamp got busted, mom was pissed. lol not a great analogy, but I’m sure you understand.
We don’t. However, this will probably help them to put 2+2 together.
The U.S. Air Force has satellites in high-Earth orbit that use infrared sensors to detect heat from missile and booster plumes against Earth’s background. Called the Defense Support Program, the system provides early warning for intercontinental ballistic missile launches.
For instance, the Buk missile uses a strong radar search and tracking system to find its targets and then helps guide a missile to the target. At some point in its flight, the missile begins to use its own radar system, emitting a unique signal.
The combination of unique signals over a period of seconds or minutes would allow a U.S. satellite to triangulate the point of launch and track the trajectory of the missile.
I’m surprised nobody got a shot of the trail from the ground to air rocket. I’m assuming there would be a nice indication that a missile was fired at the plane.
The difference between a passenger jet and a military plane is projected differently by the type of ping they use on radar. Whoever shot down this plane didn’t know what they were doing. They knew enough to operate and to fire it. The missile uses it’s own radar system once it leaves the area of the Buk.
Back in 1988, they probably didn’t have this type of technology to differentiate between a military or passenger plane.
