for sure.
I never knew VW made 5v heads. Cool stuff.
Yikes
I won’t lie, that photo made me LOL despite feeling really bad for you
Damn, thats some quality destruction!
I bet this is related to it being a VW
Sucks…though just build it bigger/better
how much power did this thing make?
estimated 1/4?
sorry for the loss, it got beat up pretty well.
last year it did ~500whp or so and did an 11.3@133, this year was 651whp and the one time I went to the track my pressure plate died on me so I coudln’t even run.
The carnage is bad enough that it’s hard to say what happened first. Post more pictures of the non mashed plugs. Did you find anything funny external to the engine as you took the car apart?
Nah, nothing outisde, but when whatever hit first, it splintered everywhere as when I pulled the intake manifold off it sounded like a maraca.
As for the plugs, I’ll see if I still have them. The plug pulling happened on the side of the road in jersey. Not sure if I left them with the car or not.
Wow that’s some carnage. Good luck with the rebuild.
Yeesh looks like quite the explosion.
Hope it turns out better for next year.
Yikes, at least the turbo is fine… that was the first thing I was thinking of. It’s shitty enough to have to build it all over but when you have to replace external parts because of internal failure it sucks that much more. That was the main reason I didn’t push my car any harder last year. I did not want to buy another turbo.
What valvetrain did you have?
how much better is the flow over the earlier 4v heads and which is more reliable. just curious.
Brian
it was supertech Ti Retainers, dual springs, and inconel single keeper exh valves.
They flow a bit more than teh 16v, but its still not like a honda head. haha. Reliability… c’mon… both are made by VW.
Fatality
Baraka never loses!
lol i suppose
my head doesnt allow enough flow to rev high enough that stuff breaks… the high velocity air breaks everything else in the driveline with torque though lol.

She’ll live again, just like a cat. How many lives is this motor on now?
What are your plans for your evo?
