max boost on a 1.8 t k03sport ?

what is the max boost you can have on a 1.8t … heard you can have up 28 if you rebuild the motor a lil … 20 max i heard for mostly stock . . anyone know ?

negative. that turbo is beyond its efficiency at anything over 15-17psi, can you push it, sure, will it be good for the longevity of it, certainly not. you dont need to “rebuild” your engine for a stock turbo, or anything “k0x” series, as long as you dont run some really agressive timing you can run a fairly large turbo on the stock engine, is it recommended, not at all.

also, my engine is built and will take a LARGE amount of boost with no worries, but revving high enough to benefit becomes the problem after that, the stock valvetrain isnt the greatest in the world and the most common heads on 1.8ts dont flow so well( AWW/AWP codes)

ok …just wondering … cause i kinda just got the car and im trying to figure out what mods are done too it already …

I am sure someone has that turbo’s compressor map.

why do you ask? do you have a boost gauge? what year is the car? 02-05 is .8bar(11.6psi) boost 00-01.5 is .6bar(8.7psi) stock

also might want to look here’

My Stock turbo tuning guide | VW Vortex - Volkswagen Forum this thread is by Mike Savko(SAVwKO) hes made the highest HP on a stock turbo’ed 1.8t, its his list of what to do

its an 02 jetta gls … yea i got a boost gauge … it hits 15lbs … its got a maped ecu .

my buddy’s apr chip spikes about 21-22 psi. the more i think about it, you might have a diode mode which is a 4.3 or 4.7 zener diode which is prolly inline with the wire(s) that run to the map sensor… i’m just speculating :ponder

the 4.7v diode clamps the map at 18psi. 4.3v seems about right for 14-15psi., he says it falls out to 5psi, which is the limp mode pressure, so his diode mode is probably jacked and its spiking past 18psi, ecu says NO and cuts it.

stock boost is good for mostly stock motor if you dont want a K03 paper weight on your desk :tong

not always the case, ive seen grenaded engines with stock turbos and just a chip, rare case though. ive also seen people wring the stock turbos out well beyond efficiency and get over 100k on the turbo… another rare case… average life span of a k03 with bolt ons is 50k… my stock turbo after running 24psi all day all long with a full TBE smoked a little bit on decel(28k miles on it, chipped/exhaust since day 2 of owning the car), oopsey.

with the 4.7 diode the computer reads a max boost of 11 psi but if he still has the n75 that will defeat the purpose of the diode… the 4.3 reads it at about 14-15. in order for the diode to work right, he needs a MBC

otherway around. 4.7 lets more boost… but either way hes gonna run into a problem
