maxima 3.5 in a sentra?>

i have a sentra se-r with nismo i/h/e, cams, and within a month, the coilovers. i go to nissanclub.com to read up on what works for the car and what doesn’t. well, there is a company somewhere in Pa who has found a way to drop in the maxima engine into the sentras. does anyone know someone who did it? and how fast would it be? it costs about the same as a turbo, and im wondering if the turbo or the 3.5v6 would be faster?

can you swap the SR20DET bluebird?

i believe so. i don’t even know if i would swap engines, but the time you pay for the swap, you could put that much $ into your own engine. but the sr20det does make power. i just want to see the pics of the sentra with the 3.5 in it. the guy said he’ll have them posted soon.

There was a kid on another forum that did the swap. I believe his was from the V6 Altima. I personally wouldn’t put a huge 3.5L V6 into a compact car. Tho the VQ35 is all aluminum, one would think that it would still make the car overly front heavy. I’d keep the stock 2.5L I4 and boost it. QR25DET FTW!!!

that was my plan, i was just wondering what it would be like. i think the boosted 4 will beat the n/a 6 anyday, but it would be cool to pop your hood and see a 3.5 chillin in there.

“I bet a VQ35 would pull a premium one week b4 racewars”…haha

I bet those engines are expensive…A QR25 could make similar power on mild boost at a much lower cost…A VQ35 swap would be cool tho

there is no substitute for cubic inches. bigger is always better.

swap the 3.5 in, tune it and get it running good, then boost the hell out of the 3.5 when you get some more cash.

If this SE-R would be a drag car, a VQ swap would def be the way to go. The added weight over the front wheels & 100+hp over stock would benefit the car greatly. However if this car would see lots of auto X time, i would wonder how the added weight up front would changes the car’s handling.

That would be an ass load of torque steer. The 3.5 with a 5 speed is a fun car.

i remember the thread. Ill have to dig it up. But there were at the time, two cars to my knowledge that did the swap. and they were good for about mid to low 13’s on a stock VQ

thanks guys, i’ll keep looking around also.

i’d go with the boosted 4, either turbo the stock motor, or swap in an sr20de and turbo that. if you wanna get really crazy you could try and lay your hands on the newer sr20Vet. it’s an sr20det vvt that they added lift intelligence to as well. mundo power.

personally id take this

over a turboed sentra anyday.

but thats me.

only bad thing is it probably cost a lot more to do this swap

Yea that would def be nice. I’m curious to see how well the car handles with the extra weight?

I’ve been watching this post for a little while, I guess i’ll throw in my 2 cents. Which was off a tech article I read a few months ago about the VQ swap (plus the group of nissan people I race with).

I dunno if it was mentioned in the links above, but i’m pretty sure i’ve heard you can keep the stock 6-speed it bolts right up to the VQ35. And that at least one of the mounts line up but you have to custom the rest. As for weight over the nose I heard the VQ isn’t that horrible, sorta like comparing shoving a LS1 into a FD RX7 (of course that car has way better balance). I’m sure with some heavier springs up front you could counter the weight out just fine for street use, and with keeping the SER tranny you still get your LSD so torque steer shouldn’t be any worse than any other high HP FWD car. Plus i’ve heard tons of horror stories about people trying to make any major power with the stock QR25 motor in the SER’s. So your probaly better off trying to get a SR20 in there somehow or go up to the V6 if you seriously want to go fast. Otherwise your probaly probaly stuck with bolt-on mods since the QR doesn’t favor high boost levels.

EDIT: Here we go, talks about sharing the transmissions, engine mounts, weight differences, and some other stuff about the swap and what it took.

Travis down in Louisiana did a VQ into B15. It runs low 13s with no engine mods iirc. He is working on a VQ B13/B14 swap too. I think he is even selling the B15 VQ engine mounts now. I don’t know if your on the sr20forum but there was a thread with all the details.

This is the only one I can find at the moment:
