I’m super pissed cause I had the exact cord I needed and threw it away when I moved in -_-
I don’t have any hard evidence it hasn’t saved me much, but I have to reset it settings occasionally and sometimes the temp will fluctuate on its own, I think just cause it’s old, but it’s very convenient to have.
I’ve been doing more research and it takes 2 hours MAX for a nest to fully charge. Well mine was on for three hours before I left for work and it still didn’t have enough power for WiFi. I’m just guessing like any rechargeable battery it just dies over time, like my iPhone after a year or so.
What I don’t understand is on their site it states most homes DO NOT require the common. Which is true cause obviously mine doesn’t require it to be powered, but shit if you’re already back there why not run that extra common wire to avoid this shit in the first place???
For all I know this was a fluke and it will be fine until next year. I ideally would like it to break by May at the earliest .
I don’t have the 1st gen, I have a 2nd gen. But I don’t believe it’s supposed to rely on the battery ever unless the power is out in the house. Mine runs off the furnace power wire. Only if I flip the breaker off on the furnace does it tell me power is not connected and that it’s running on battery.

This is definitely not how mine works. The battery is just there as a backup not to run the system like a phone. Sounds like it was installed wrong.
Exactly, which I wouldn’t have done but I’m not the original installer. I guess some people leave their fans on 24/7 so it charges but to me just seems like an easy way to lose a fan/motor a lot sooner.
If I have more trouble with it when I get home from work I’ll start posting pics and progress, or just throw on that shitty 20$ one.
You don’t need leave your fan on 24/7 to keep it charged mine doesn’t have a common and has only had a issue once and that was after sitting all summer since I don’t have central air.
Interestingly I just looked at my NEST and it said “low battery, not connected” lol. There is a service issue reported today on the NEST site and the recommendation is to reset the NEST.

I tried a reset and that didn’t change anything, but it’s not like the thing is going to shutoff and leave me without heat. I’m sure they’ll push out a fix soon.
