Message to all the new bikers

The only place I lock up my helmet is on campus. Only because there are so many people around that it’s doubtful that something would happen. Other than that, I have my shit with me.

i agree, ill be “that guy” to save my self the 500

+1

everyone thinks were trying to be douchebags?

srsly, lemme just put that big bulky $300+ jacket, those $60+ gloves and that $500+ helmet on my seat, or better yet just next to my bike on the ground, I trust people so I should be good.

do you really think I like walking around with that hot/heavy jacket and helmet in my hand all day? LOL.

Hells no.

But, I do <3 good gear, so it’s an even trade-off.

I ride until it snows, so I need a jacket stay warm.

Its really hard to ride my FZR in the snow… I can not even touch the front brake w/o it locking up.

I wonder if I can mount some dirtbike tires?

do you leave anything worth more then 200 bucks out in the open for people to steal?

I work at a bar… I’ve seen three people get out of their cars with their jackets on and meander around the bar…

I also have seen people on campus get out of their cars with it on.

its understandable if you have to walk around campus with it… but when its raining out… come on… like you raod your bike to school… fucking cock suckers

Ya I wont leave a helmet on a bike. I will deal with the heat and walk around in a jacket. It is dumb to not wear gear when I go out riding to run an errand but I do. I wear at least a jacket and gloves if I am on a cruise so at least I am a step up then never wearing gear.

If I am out and about or meet someone somewhere, I typically have my backpack and hook my helmet to my backpack. Like many people said, if I am paying $400 for a helmet, I am not leaving it sitting on my bike esp at the mall or chippewa. Would you leave your laptop or cell phone or something sitting on the hood of your car? I doubt it.

As with the liter bike, I fully agree. I learned all summer on a CBR600 and a older R6. Both great bikes. Light, fun to ride, still quick, and easy to manuver. Every beginner rider that I know personally who has jumped on a R1 has crashed. It is way too much power at the throttle and its scary.

good read.

I have ridden to classes when it was 35 and raining. As long as you stay dry, the rain does not matter much. 35 and wet was terrible though :frowning:

I do not however wear any gear when I am not riding.
Although, I did ask MrSmith if I needed a helmet to ride in his car.

Might as well add to this thread for any later season riders.

When the air is colder, that means the road is colder, and so are your tires. Meaning that you won’t get anywhere near the same traction going hard into turns so be careful. You can’t do the things you used to in the heat of summer and a lot of people get too pumped on their bikes thinking the season is almost over and want to have fun before the snow flies. Don’t end it too soon by pushing the bike and tires beyond their limits.

True.
It was a PITA riding across a wet field this morning.

Although it was fun as my bike would never have the power slide on pavement :frowning:
