getting the back ready to weld up:
one step forwards two steps back here, but I found some more information that I wrote with the pictures in my two previous threads…
Rotors, knuckles, trailing arms, and extended ARP studs are installed. They were carefully cleaned up with a wire brush to remove any surface rust and sprayed rustoleum black. I sprayed the rotors just to keep them from rusting and getting messed up while I finish the rest of the car. The paint will obviously come off as soon as I hit the brakes. The suspension components and trailing arms were painted gloss black and cleared for some rest prevention and for some easier cleaning in the future.
The biggest step I’ve taken since having the roll bar welded in… the cutting of the quarter panels and fenders. The rear quarters are a bit tricky due to the inner fenders. I used a simple cutting wheel and only cut the outer skin then did relief cuts on the inner fender and began hammering it to meet the new edge of the quarter panel.
i can’t wait to see those fenders finished and the flares installed!
I spent some time last night checking clearances and taking a look at how I might adjust the stance. I ended up moving the front flare up about 2 inches since I realized that it hung lower than the OEM fender lip. Even though it can hang that low due to the fact that its wider than the wheel, by lifting it up and dropping the car down a little bit I can lean the front of the car down a bit and bring the whole car 1/2-1" lower.
flare raised, car not lowered yet:
I adjusted the suspension and snapped a few pics. Very subtle changes.
I think the back might still come down a half an inch or so.
awesome!
The bumper has no “hidden” fasteners. it has 6 quarter turn dzus fasteners. 2 on each flare to the bumper and two on the radiator support.
This one goes through the flare, bumper, and finally the aluminum plate that is bolted to the stock fender and inner fender bracket.
Nice build. This is probably one of the best looking Del Sol’s I’ve seen in a while. Are those J’s copy fender flares?
Very nice work. Super clean build too. Looks like a never ending project that keeps getting better and better
5 stars
nope they are Nissan ZG flare copys, I can’t remember the official name of them. I got them dirt cheap because the carbon had some voids. Some paint and no one will ever know the difference.
Both front flares on:
wow that is beautiful
holy fucking sick, love it.
I just realized I didn’t really put up the completed pictures…
here is everything mocked up but not bolted down (which is why its a little bit crooked)
:bigclap:
love it. i always wanted a sol. this is just sweet.
Looks great dude!
Absolutely love the flares.
You should put my B18C in there!
Thanks.
unfortunately recent goings have been real slow. I am working on the new bumper though and just bought a paint gun so I can attempt to do it all myself
fiberglassing:
body work is looking good!
