VW apparently tries to re-capture the military market. They have a “protected” version of the Touareg, with an internal safety cocoon made from Armour grade steel. It makes the interior smaller, but to casual onlookers, the T-reg does not appear to be an armored vehicle. Interestingly, the military (German Bundeswehr) does not classify the Touareg (“Frettchen” - “Ferret”) as an off road vehicle, but merely a vehicle for unpaved roads.

Whether or not VW is going to actually sell any, is unsure. The T-reg did not do so well in the army’s vehicle testing center and its grueling off road courses modeled after Afghanistan conditions.

The Austrian armed forces bought 100+ T-regs, but only a military green civvy version.

Flat green the new black.

looks cool but doesnt strike me as the toughest vehicle in general.
