I had more then enough saved up. But that money was for moving and a down payment on a new house if I had to move for a job. Also I lived in Pennsylvania. So I used it to move and buy a home in NY. That shit is not cheap or free.

If your plan works you should quit your job and try it out for a year.

Not gonna win this battle as I’ve worked 2 jobs at the same time, each close to minimum wage for ~7 years before doing what I do now.

You can work harder or work smarter your choice. Welcome to America. Unemployment will never go away as long as company’s downsize for profit or move there jobs overseas. If the American people are not worth what they are paid you should move to china and assembly iPhones for some tea and a biscuit. This country is great because we take care of the people who deserve it yes some bums slip through the cracks but you can’t stop all the crooks. Just like you can’t stop all the crazy dudes who shoot up schools.

I dont know how much you make but even if I worked 3 minimum wage jobs at full time I would not make as much as I do now. But hey work harder or work smarter.

I spent 13 year in the Army left making 60k a year I should have went to minimum wage job or less on unemployment. Then have to default on my home, car, and have my credit destroyed.

I did not deserve to be on unemployment for 8 months while I searched for a job that I was god damn “entitled” to.

When minimum wage went up in PA when I was in my 20’s my employer bumped everyones pay. If your employer doesn’t sorry your employer only cares about the executives and share holders your just a number.

What’s your point? Unemployment is by far a bigger safety net and the fact that it will pay out people more due to their previous work FOR SITTING than people working full time get paid and are expected to survive an are called entitled it is a major problem.

If I had a dollar for every person that “couldn’t find a job” when they are unemployed when in reality they refused to take a lesser job, which makes sense in a tough economy, and would rather collect unemployment.

Unemployment should pay out MAX below a full time job making minimum wage, see how many people sit around then, as you’re about to lose your house and car.

Yes unemployment is much easier to take advantage of. Make that shit expire, and enforce it. /unemployment. Watch the lazy fucks loose their shit. I am sorry, but I wont feel bad for those taking blatent advantage of a system aimed at helping people get back on their feet. But its not policed well enough as it is and people rape the system.

If it were strictly enforced it would work fine IMO. Like you said if you have a decent job, and decent head on your shoulders, you don’t need it. Which is how its formed. $405 a week X 2 X52 weeks is $42,120 a year. If you don’t have redic credit card and loans to pay out the ass for, don’t drive a brand new vette, don’t live in a $1800 a mo house/apt and piss money away that’s a decent living and you can put money away for your own safety net. So IMO, anyone making $42,121 a year shouldn’t need to use unemployment as a safty net while looking for another job. If they rely on it, they are like you said living at the edge or beyond their income.

And the people making less than that are going to get half of what they are used to. So someone making $20 an hr, is now taking in $10 an hr. (50% of previous wage) So even making the $20/hr and going on unemployment to max it out each week is damn close to minimum wage. The point at which unemployment and minimum wage is equal is $330 a week. So someone who made $34K a year, lost their job and can either milk unemployment for $330 a week, or work for minimum wage and get the same payment, gross. I don’t even want to get into net and those variables. Anyone who made LESS than 34K ($14.42/hr)a year who lost their job, and milks unemployment for $330 a week, is fucking lazy… because they could be working for minimum wage and making MORE than unemployment. But they dont becasue they dont want to take a $6 “pay cut”.

So my point is, if you want to call either of them a safety net, IMO, minimum wage is MORE of a safety net. Because it pays more to find a shit job for mw, than it would to milk ue, unless you were making $34-42K a year before losing your job.

Biggest prolblem with minimum wage is that you can’t live on it. Seems to me that if someone is working a fulltime job, they should make enough to have a roof over their head, food on the table, and a way to get to work every day.

I agree…I don’t think its fair that if you open a restaurant you can pay less for labor costs just because its standard that they get tipped…how bout pay your employees more so i don’t have to tip as much…tipping is stupid.
