So i was reading about the minimum wage law that is going into effect in Jan. There was a part i didnt understand.
Exceptions From Minimum Wage Rates
Learners and students (bona fide high school or college), after obtaining a Special Certificate from the Bureau of Labor Law Compliance, (1301 L&I Bldg., 7th & Forster Sts., Harrisburg, PA 17121) may be paid 85% of the minimum wage as follows:
Learners: 40 hours a week. Maximum eight weeks
Students: Up to 20 hours a week. Up to 40 hours a week during school vacation periods
“Artificially fixing a price for labor above the market price causes a decrease in the overall demand for labor, leading to increased unemployment and a deadweight loss. Workers who lose their jobs would not receive the living wage. Furthermore, such wage increases can cause inflation, increasing the cost of living and decreasing the relative buying power of the living wage, which leaves the minimum wage earner no better off.”
no… it is nessicary… so those students that work for nothing or next to nothing can’t claim they are being supressed from the minimum wage when it comes time to get paid, it avoids pointless law suits… the minimum wage isn’t really just a concept if it’s a law, right and statute… ya know?
what are you guys talkin about, work for nothing? most of the internships my friends have had earn $12 dollars and hour or MORE (like 16) and they dont do a damn thing at their jobs. but then again we are engineers
Where obi-1 and I work they pay interns pretty well and it’s a nice place to work with real computer software problems to solve with satisfying and challenging work.
Yeah, socialism is SO sucessful…the other Western nations that have adopted it are doing much better than we are, and the Eastern nations have really prospered.
