Minstry of Transportation, dilemna

Ok guys heres the thing. Trading my S14 for a 2003 Eclipse, + $1000. Its pretty much a straight trade, so I called the Ministry and said we should not have to pay taxes on the vehicles, since the government has had nothing to do with the sale, no exchange of money, except the $1000. I told them to tax me on the $1000 since that is what is the correct thing to do. I was pissed, she told me we will both be taxed the full value of each vehicle! I know that was coming but I mean what bullshit is that?? This goverment is fucked! If you guys know anything we can do, please post about it, thanks.

Taxation has nothing to do with how much you spent, it’s only about the value of the goods you aquire.

03’ eclipse :pukel:

agreed

Talk to them about giving the car as a gift. My dad did that when he gave me an older car, adn we were tax exempt.

a gift can only be given to a member of immediate family (mom, brother) and you must both be present before a commisioner of Oaths, usually by appointment.

your only option is to transfer title at a very low value and pay the tax on the wholesale value of the car.

also, 03’ clipse is a faggot car, you should also have to pay a “being a faggot tax”

Modified Audi 1.8t > 03 Eclipse

Why not both write a bill of sale for each of your rides for 1000$ and then atleast you will pay the lowest possible wholesale price in tax.

there is a min and max value assigned to each car according to book value. they will make you pay the min if you are under.

you people sound like you’ve never bought or sold a car before.

  1. buy the used vehicle package for each car
  2. check the wholesale and retail prices
  3. write the bill of sale at or less than the wholesale price
  4. pay the least amount of tax possible…

whats the problem?

if you are in good with a collision shop, it is possible to get an appraisal done that will lower the taxed value of the car to whatever they put it as. However, I don’t think you could lower the value of the eclipse too much without raising some eyebrows at the MTO

yeah, low bills of sale.

I paid $50 for mine and $4 tax…

I smiled and she asked why so little, I told her it has no motor, tranny interior… just a windsheild and solid floor…

fraud is bad though, suck it up, taxes suck, we all know

YEEEEAH BOI!

now we can be bro’s, spilner and tyrese…

If she was doing her job, you would have to paid the lower market value of the car. The appraisal is the only thing that can lower the value of the car below the lowest market value in the eyes of the MTO.

ummm yeh if u need that aero… let me know …

Lol, relax I didnt buy the car because I love it, resale value is higher than my car, and this way I can get rid of my car finally, and have a pretty much brand new car. Trust me i dont like eclipses. My goal is to sell in the spring, and buy an audi or a wrx, lol.

Plans never work. :frowning:

   Agreed on the tax.

But seriously, they will only accept a car as a gift only from immediate family. Legally they have to go buy the list price on the used sales package. Sometimes if the person is nice they won’t do that. When I went to MTO to transfer two vehicles I took the bill of sale that stated that the car was worth a few hundred dollars and they accepted it. They aren’t allowed to do that but they do, it really depends on who you get to deal with. But don’t tell them about the trade just take in the bill of sale that states you got the car for like $400. Like someone said, tell them the car is in bad condition, high km, body damage, etc… Good luck!!!
