My local media company is going to expand into the mobile app market for local businesses that provide certain information features on a hosted platform. The business client would be able to login and update the text on all the pages themselves from my portal however, I am just curious for the smartphone/mobile web users here, what types of features you look for on a mobile website, and which ones would be useless.
Also, would you use a mobile version of a local business for menu/product/updates/etc or would you continue to use google/urbanspoon/etc for info such as locations, menu, hours, etc. in the sense of would you go right to it or use the other means.
In my opinion, a mobile site still needs to retain full site functionality. It is severely irritating when you need to get to a full computer to complete a task because it is not located within the mobile interface.
As for your second question… if the information is readily available FAST and EASY on the company’s own site, then i would hit that first, however, if it isn’t fast and easy to access, I’m going elsewhere for the information.
No 10MB PDF menus…No flash, regardless if everyone and their mother can load it. It takes more time. People visiting a site usually have one objective to accomplish. Get in and get out.
thoughts? feature ideas? sold a few already but looking to come up with some new features and modules frrom people who use mobile websites on smartphones.
My biggest issue with a lot of mobile sites is the lack of a link or button for “FULL SITE”. I hate being on the ipad and forced into a mobile site with limited functionality when I have more computing power than grandmas computer from 1998 that can see the full site.
Oh hai guys, we’re sure you wouldn’t want to do an advanced search so you could limit results by such useless things as miles or drive type on your phone.
Haha ya were looking for more modules to add to better have the experience fit the users purpose. I can’t stand certain mobile websites so we want a simple, managed interface for the business to use for their app but there is key features people look for in mobile sites to make them useful. i know exactly what you mean with searching and filtering stuff down.
