so i went to autozone and purchased a new headlight switch. while taking the old one out i got a little upset, and had an episode. everythings back together now, but i was wrenching the shit out of the dash. now my running lights, taillights, dashboard lights, or heater control lights don’t work. and the clock dosent dim when i turn the headlights on. faulty switch? or did i fuck somethign up during the install?
the headlights work fine, but no other lights go on that should when the switch is activated. tommorow i’m gonna swap out the new with the old, and see if it works. if it does, then i’m gonna go to autozone and throw the switch at the person behind the counter.
so basicly i was seeing if anyone has a manual and can check the wiring diagrams to see if i disrupted and fuses/relays during my episode. thanks.
Not too likely, there are numerous ground points for that circuit. Sounds like you definitely had a large current draw. The fuse is probably blown but your going to have to find the short. If you get them to turn on you’ll probably have a light out. Start there and work your way back. Is your radio stock or aftermarket? If its aftermarket make sure you didn’t hook your ground lead to the dimmer circuit. It happens all the time. Also it could just be a bad bulb. If the filament touches the metal base that would basically be a dead short.
Also keep in mind in the taurus, the power for the headlights goes from the switch. Into the steering column for the Hi-Beam switch. I had an issue with that on my 89 not sure if applies to 2nd gen taurii.
At this point though sounds like something has shorted and blew the fuse, so break out the multi-meter and start poking around.
