I’m kind of surprised to see no impala / caprice (fleet) type vehicle mentioned.
Otherwise, pretty good list overall considerig their impacts.
TORONADO
SATURN
what is so significant about that?
My guess is that the V is not on the list for differential design.
yeah, I’ll buy into that list.
9. 1966 OLDSMOBILE TORONADO
Seven years in the making, the Toronado was an engineering and styling success and featured the work of two men who would go on to be important to GM. Future CEO Bob Stempel designed the V8 front-wheel-drive powertrain (GM had been working on front-wheel drive for almost a decade)-it was the first use of that layout in a modern car. Future GM styling chief Wayne Cherry helped give the sleek, fastback Toronado its signature look. A 385-hp V8 powered the car.
13. 1990 SATURN
It began in the 1980s as a way to build competitive small cars in the United States to take on the Japanese. The first Saturn was built in 1990. While Saturn didn’t put Toyota or Honda out of business, it developed a loyal following with no-hassle pricing and excellent customer service.
:gotme:
Saturn was an entry into an untapped market for GM. A small affordable car that got 40 mpg hwy and was attractive to younger buyers.
Also, the S-series sold 1990 through 2002, with only small redesigns in 1996/1997 and in 2000/2001.
NO TURBO SUNBIRD CONVERTABLE? WHAT THE FUCK
Of all my dealer experiences, Saturn has been the best.
Even while I was pursuing lemon law on my car, they gave me rentals.
Although they let us rent trucks, so they are largely responsible for a great deal
of home renovation as well.
Nuff said ![]()
Honestly suprised the 57 Chevy Bel-Air isn’t on there since it is the most recognizable car out there.
Can’t argue with the list.
Agree with Nic though that the Caprice should probably be on there just for the mega bucks GM made selling it to government agencies for all those years.
I would also like to think that they might have included the Syclone/Typhoon but maybe that was just a continuation on the GNX theme.
its not so much about model recongnition as much as its about innovation (at the time) by GM.

not even for the profits persay… but (IMO) it was one of the most utilized platforms they ever put out. Talk about proliferation. Cheap, die hard, etc etc.
Well they did make mention of the 1965 Impala which had more than a million sales in 1965.
Chevy Volt?
“what have you done for me lately?”
Remains to be seen if it’s a game changer or the next EV1.
idk, the thing looks good. 40 miles with one charge? interesting.
fiero.
years are wrong first year for saturn was 1991 not 1990 unless they mean being built in 1990
