Is it possible to put in an “aftermarket” motherboard into a laptop? I’ve got an emachines laptop and the mobo burnt out. Do I have to stock replace it or can I find one thats not emachines brand?
Chances are about 99.9% that you can’t. Unless you find one on e-bay or get it through eMachines(hah!)
they’re 100% proprietary, and built for the machine they go into. The only way you’re gonna go is an identical board, or one from a “sister” board if your model e-machines has one. Meaning… an identical case.
ebay. best chance to find one, and even then… you’re not guaranteed a fully working board as it is. PLUS, its an EMachines! Looks like you’re in for a new laptop.
One recommendation however. Post your broken laptop on ebay, pull the windows XP sticker off and the hard drive out, and you’ll still make at least $150 on the laptop, as long as the rest of it is OK. Just make sure to be VERY descriptive as to what is not there, and how it is broken. If you need a buyer for any of those “extra” parts, PM me with what you have. I may be interested. Or, just post it up as a FS
