Dunlop Slicks are on (285’s on all 4), new RPF1 18x10.5’s. Splitter is back on, wing is adjusted, finally put an alignment on the car. Fixed a ton of other little shit that I had broken. Also finally weighed the car. With me, a 3/4 tank of fuel, all fluids, and the slicks it weighs in at 3361, which is 53% front, 47% rear. That’s with doors full of dynamat, stock sound deadening, evap, heat shields, power windows, power locks, full stock wiring harness, ABS system, all metal bodywork, all glass, etc. Should be able to strip a TON of weight out of it over the winter. I’d be happy with sub-3000lbs with me in the car. All loaded up and heading to Watkins Glen Monday and Tuesday along with some other people on here. Going to shoot to relearn the car and set some personal best’s. Photos and video soon.
 good stuff.
Yeah… went to the Glen… everything seemed normal, pulled up into hot pits for my first session and the car turned off. Wouldn’t restart, and the motor appears to have tossed a bearing. Unfortunate, but these things happen. Going to investigate the cause this week before I decide to just toss another motor back in. I made out a price list for a nice 3 stage dry sump setup but I honestly don’t really want to spend that kind of money on it right away.
Motor pull in 90 seconds
lol @ Adictd2b00st timelapse
badical… where was this done?
I pulled the motor out at Innovative yesterday afternoon.
Ha sweet vid! Jay did alot of watching
Damn, that sux.
love the vid
Sorry to hear about the motor.
Heard about this. Bum deal man.
At least it happened at the end of the season…
Dan
Finally moved the motor into my barn, with a fucked up back from crashing a quad last weekend… this sucked. I drained the motor and flipped it over to make sure all the water was out of it and heard the sickening sound of metal chunks flying around in the bottom end… never a good sign.
Opened the lower pan to find these little pieces, immediately knew it was parts of the oil pump drive gears. Ehhhhh.

Took the upper pan off, noticed a peculiar cracked part of the front case…
Took 3 large pieces of aluminum out, oh hey you can see the inner drive gear still intact on the crank… where’s the outer drive gear?
Oh there (part of) it is!
Unfortunately I’m not sure why it failed since the pickup was fine, and everything seems to be intact before the pump. Gonna have to tear some stuff down to hopefully find an answer.
Yikes.
What a shitty way to go How is the rest of the motor?
Likely trash, but I haven’t taken it apart yet. Probably get to it this afternoon.
Oh hey, an oil pump… with a big hole in the bottom.
Found all the pieces of the outer pump gear. Still not sure why it destroyed itself.
You can see where the inner gear was wearing on the case just before the engine stopped. The entire rest of the case is basically cracked in half as well.
A pile of VK parts. Everything seems to be in great shape despite having had the oil pump die, granted I still haven’t knocked the pistons out or removed the crank, which will be the deciding factor between rebuilding or just slapping another motor in.
put the BMW V12 in there…
Haha, I’m not sure it would even fit.
Took the bottom end apart today,
Knocked as many pistons out as possible before starting on the main caps. A seized motor makes things so fun to work on!
Oh hey, there’s the culprit! Main #3 is completely dead. Every rod bearing looks great, and all the other journals on the crank look great.
#3

#1
These are the only other mains showing any damage/heat/wear.
any idea on the cause?
A piece of debris in one of the main galleys. Not sure where it came from, but changing a bit of the oil pickup to prevent it from happening again.
Also picked up a salvaged/fire motor from an '08 for cheap cheap from a North NJ dismantler, hahaha. Basically got it for the crank and the timing covers, my '04 crank is trash and the '07+ timing covers allow me to use a different cam gear and go back to full sequential fuel/spark with the ViPEC.
This thing got toasty! Was definitely a fuel rail fire from the line joining the two rails in front of the intake.
that looks totally worthless to me.
also, where is your 850 updates?
