Not to stir the pot, but in a month, to two months, there a few of you I would like to run. 
saying a certain mph is bad to pull from is the gayest thing EVER.
If you start my car from 10 its super fast but starting from 40 its slow.
For the record I was dead nuts even with an LS1 6 sp in my cobra from 20-100, I was in 2nd(3.73’s), he was in 1st(3.42’s). I know this 5.0 makes more power than mine so stop making excuses. So does your car go really fast at 10 and then slow down at 40 and then go fast again later. If the car downshifted into second then it was simply slower, I don’t see how 40 would be a bad speed for second gear in an auto. If it didn’t downshift then it’s a fucking useless slushbox, it lost because it was an inferior performance car that doesn’t know what gear to go into and is slow because of it.
Unless there is something wrong with the car, there is no reason it shouldn’t go into 2nd at 40 and there is no reason 40 should be a bad speed to roll from for it.

It did go into 2nd. It needed to go into first, geez. He was most likely in 3rd and it probably dropped down to 2nd at 2000rpm instead of first at about 4000rpm or whatever. It would have made a huge difference.

I like how people go from saying it won’t down shift(into 1st from 3rd) to saying “well, it went into 2nd, (which is what it should do because going into first would waste time with an extra shift) but it didn’t go into 1st”
And then some people say it stayed in third, seriously if the car stayed in third when floored at 40mph that is fucking terrible.
Once again, my car starting in 2nd from 20mph was dead nuts even to 100mph with an ls1 starting in 1st.
From 40, 2nd should be fine, going into first would’ve been a waste of time even if it did.
From my brief time dealing with 4L60 transmissions and the knowledge I’ve learned from frustration, I’ve learned at highway speeds they like to hold 4th and they like to only shift down one gear. So if your in 4th, it grabs 3rd and so on. Also on deceleration some go into overdrive (4th)
Going from a roll in the 40-45 range, his car, being stock…and stock tune, probably held 4th. When romped it, it dumped to 3rd, noticed the pedal was indeed all the way down, then dumped to 2nd…see the time lapse from when he probably hit the gas, to when the car actually moves. After that initial surge, the pretty much move along the same.
Ok now tune it the way it should have been done in the first place. Some changes in the tune and now you can drop from 4 to 2 or 3 to 1. It wasn’t until recently that GM was allowing the autos to do that from the factory.
It still takes some time, which is why, when I hit my stalled auto at just an instant before the 3rd beep I usually pull hard.
George, I have some old BFG Drag Radials that would do well to give Brain a good show at the track. 20 Bucks and their yours. I cut 1.66X 60 foots on them.

lol @ saying 1st gear @ 4k is a wasted shift. you’re starting in high rpms, if u start in low rpms from a roll the car will bog down, (for maybe a second, but it’s still wasted time)
