My 1968 Mustang Fastback (now Satin Black).

Again, I feel like an archaeologist. Inside and all wrapped up was the original build sheet. Usually over 40 years this shit is long gone.

Got lucky again.

It’s a whore to unwrap, but I got it all set. Pretty bitchin’.

Pic of the Ford brazing. Not sure why this was done in the first place.

And, because I had a camera handy, a pic of my buddy’s Romainian AK-47, just picked it up for $250. :stuck_out_tongue:

nice car… cant wait to see this done!! oh and good deal on gun lol

Now where’s that picture I have of the Mustang with the RB 26 in it- hum better not get Mr. Newman thinking or he’ll be round at your place with a plasma cutter and a welder fitting one for you!
Funnily enough I do have an RB30 and his old GT3040 turbo sitting here, mI might even be able to come up with a transmission, hum…
Seriously though you are doing a great job, keep up the good work

I think I’d like the Black engine you sent me the dyno sheet of… :holyshit: :notfuckingaround:

The car you’re looking for is the Fast and The Furious Tokyo Drift '67 fastback, same bodystyle as mine

I just found the pictures of the mustang with the RB motor Tom, you have them there. As for fitting a hemi into a Mustang, oh my lord the Mopar ‘Purists’ would have you hanging from a tree!
That old heap of a dart went well for a little mechanical cam , pump gas motor though, 3400lbs it went 9.90 on street tires, through the mufflers, I have some little video clips somewhere, if only I could find them- hum…

Thats really cool that you found that build sheet, what a find

Man I want a sweet mustang fastback

You want everything, you sound like a 2 year old.

Nice work, seems like you are having fun with it too.

X…

 Ahem, updates from you now!

You sonuvabitch, I knew this was coming

I have a whole lotta stuff coming in zee mail right now. I stopped out at MAC’s new facility on Donner Road, really nice place. Walked out with $250 of “on-the-spot” purchases  Oops. Also hit CJ Pony Parts, Mustang Project, and Wilwood to name a few.

Nearly done on the removal, there’s a lot of hidden welds. Subfarme is chocked off, and I pulled the export brace and front suspension to get at the rest of it. Got held up when the bit broke, back on track now.

Pics to come when the shit gets here.

I’m flying back from sunny England early tomorrow Tom and I expect to see this project just about finished when I get back!

It’s been a while since I’ve updated, but I’ve been waiting on parts to get in. (Still am, actually, the cowl is backordered :frowning: ) I seperated the cowl halves last night - It needed it. There were about 200 or so welds I had to locate and cut.

I found about 3 pounds of needles, bugs, and rot in each of the drains. The lower panel was rotted through in about 4 different places.

I have some more pics, I’ll get them up tomorrow.

El oh el…

I know that these cars weren’t meant to last many moons, but I just pulled out a structural piece that was my defroster plenum - made out of something interesting.

Let’s just say that they went the short route

Yeah, this needed to be done.

Pretty bad shape!

Lower out. Closest to camera is the heater and defroster.

Welds ground down and the entire mating surface cleaned up with a flap disc and lightly oiled to inhibit rust. Look at that bling

I am still waiting on the cowl panel to show up.

In the meantime I decided to rebuild the heater and defroster. I wasn’t gettin anything out of it and the cable controls were binding.

Maybe this is why. Left is old, notice what I can only describe as “plaque.” Ugh…
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/489813/fullsize/old-and-new-heater-core.jpg

Here’s what I was talking about before - the defroster plenum. When this car was made, it obviously hadn’t been designed to last 40+ years.

But still, who does this  I give you, structural cardboard:

About the consistency of that potting cardboard you find at Lowes.

All the stuff for the rebuild. Used new seals, core, motor, defroster and tubes. The heater box was cleaned, disinfected, and duralubed up.

End result.

More too come…

Car will be better than when for first pumped it out.
Looks really good.

Thanks, that’s the plan.

Disc brakes, LED taillights, roller spring perches, Tremec 5-speed, subframe connectors, Monte Carlo bar, etc. etc. That’s just this year, next year I’m painting, pulling the motor and adding some :snky:

Cowl went in the mail today.

Holy cow… Your cowl was wasted. 60’s Mustangs were notorious for the cowls to rot out near the top hat.

 to doing it right the first time

The proper term is “hole-y shit.” I’m only holding onto it to align the lower when it gets here, then that bitch is trash.

You still interested in that fan?
