well, got some work done on the bike. I had a spare chain from the cb350 and it appeared to be the same size so i chopped it and added it to the cb450 chain to get the length i needed. I slipped on the exhaust that came with the bike but im thinking they kinda suck. Im kinda getting tired of building this thing and im trying to avoid having to invest too much time/money into this project.
ok, i was waiting on some universal forward controls that i bought of ebay for 100bucs. I removed the front motor mount plates and welded tube to the plate and then a thivk wide washer to the end and drilled the proper hole to enter the bolt through to the controls to thread on to.
painted them rustolium semi flat black and installed them on the bike. here is what they look like.
now i can chop off and unbolt the stock foot pegs. Now i need to fab up some linkages for my controls.
I don’t know what you plan to do for the factory foot pegs…But I can tell you what I did when I ditched mine and how I made linkages.
I unbolted the foot pegs, and cit the pegs off the big fat round mounting point, and then used a bench grinder to make that smooth and round like a huge ass washer, and then bolted them back on…I’ll try to snap a pic of them when I run to the shop in a couple hours.
as for linkages, I turned the stock shifter straight down, and cut it in half. then I drilled a hole and tapped it, and used one of those “i”-hook deals where they are threaded into a bracket and one side is reverse threaded…and I took out the normal threaded i-hook and welded more threaded rod to it for desired lenght and then just used a bolt with a small nylon bushing to allow the i-hooks to move freely
ok,. some more updates. it was fucking beautiful outside so i had to get something done.
i fabed up and made the linkage for my forward control gear shifter thingy.lol
works just as planned, just some grinding/cutting/welding like everything else. next ill tackle the rear breaks side of the project. hopefully tommorow.
well, got to work on the bike a little tonight. im getting tired of working on this thing but the end is almost near. here are a couple pics of the completed forward controls and some downpipes i built since the old pipes wouldnt clear with the forward controls.
Im planning on wrapping the pipes and leaving the tips exposed. Not sure if they arent long enough but i realy dont want alot of pipe to be honest. less is more imho. meh
fired it up today, and was runnin on 1 cyl. so i plaid around with the points adjustments again and i got both cylinders fireing again. sounds loud with the straight pipes but kinda gay at high rpms.lol Its a 450 honda, lol not a 1300cc harley.
i need to do some painting now and finish up some loose ends, then hopefuly some hairy burnouts.
uhmmm, the bike needs to have the carbs adjusted as well, doesnt like to stay running after high rpms, but will idle all day. seams to smell rich which doesnt make sense since i cut off the exhaust and removed the airbox.
wings at the pub FTW. looks good john that thing has to be loud as fuck with the pipes pointed at the ground at the same point your ears are. The sound must bounce up pretty good
yea, im sure it will get annoying, we actually added a couple 90’s i had left over from my manifold pointing it outand to the side, so it shouldnt be too bad. Bike should be up and running this weekend all finished up. painting the frame and parts now and waiting for tank still.
