My problem is my leaking brake booster and master cylinder, causing poor braking performance and forcing me to fill up my brake fluid constantly. I would not overly mind of I had to just refill my brake fluid, but dripping corrosive fluid in my engine bay and giving me the spongiest brake pedal ever is something I want to avoid.
As you can see in these pictures, brake fluid is clearly leaking from my brake booster or my master cylinder.
Here is my first problem, what’s leaking, is it my BB or my master cylinder? But I guess after dripping corrosive brake fluid on my BB and the MC each are probably leaking now.
Now I have made a post in the ‘Want to buy’ section for a working BB and MC, and I have received many offers. But all seem to be ABS, and my 91 coupe is a non-ABS, I’m not 100% sure how much of issue that would be but I have continued to look for a non-ABS BB/MC.
So I guess this is my first round of questions about my problem, next is how to properly install a BB/MC and how to bench bleed a MC.
Thanks guys.
it’s the MC leaking, the brake booster shouldn’t ever have fluid in it, though it might now because of the MC leak. you’ll want to replace both of them, it’s not that hard, there are 4 12mm nuts around the brake pedal under the dash and one pin through the brake pedal that you have to remove, then take off the 2 brake lines (10mm wrench) and the one plug by the reservoir and it should come out. if your car is non-abs then you will need a non-abs MC, they aren’t interchangable.
Get the new MC, you don’t need a new booster, just check that it works. And then bleed the system PROPERLY and it’ll be fine so long as you don’t have any holes in the lines.
Yes, the S14 one will work, but there are several sizes. Make sure you get one that has the same fraction on the side as yours (I believe 7/8 or 15/16) Get the bigger one if you a)want a harder pedal b)plan on getting 300ZX brakes. I have Z brakes on mine, and am using a 1 1/16" (It’s like stepping on a brick)
