My Car's Got It

I’ve had Idle Air Control Valve problems on three vehicles now and each vehicle, each time the idle problem was from the IACV

so anytime I hear of an dipping problem I say its the IACV! lol

Update: Been kinda busy with other things. Throttle cables are good.

As per Jedi, i’ll have my mechanic clean out my IACV and hope for the best! A new one from Nissan Agincourt is apparently $256!

Does the intake manifold absolutely have to come off for this job?

BTW, it’s dipping to 400 RPM now… It’s only a matter of time!

Thanks for all the help guys!

Update:

Okay guys, I really hope you can help with this…it’s driving me up the wall!

Same issue continues, sometimes dips as low as 100 RPM now… :?

Have not gotten around to cleaning/replacing the IACV…but I have installed the grounding wires which have not helped the situation. So anyway:

According to the above, at least 2 portions of my IAC system should work. I have A/C, and it ups the idle properly each time (IAA). My car warms up and idles high at the beginning like a champ (Air Regulator). Would you suspect the AAC then or is it looking like something else altogether?

Because of it’s location should I have the intake system cleaned first to see if anything is helped idle-wise, or would that just be a waste of money and/or not get to the IACV system?

Or is it so likely to be the IACV altogether that it should just be done?

Again, the only condition i’m seeing is occasional idle dip (lights fade, car vibrates, down to 100-500RPM) when stopping/clutching - the harder I push the car before clutching, usually the more it dips.

Thanks in advance…hopefully this can help out a few others as well…

Ok so your saying when your hard on it, high rev’s, clutch in and stop the car that this happens?

It may not be you IAVC at all then. This can be attributed to a leak in your air intake system or your MAF can be on it’s way out.

Look for any leaks in the vacuum lines, cracks in the stock rubber intake boot and tighten everything down. I had a problem like this with my Mazda. The system has to AIR TIGHT!

As for the MAF, well if it’s an intmittent problem that’s a lot harder to determine. See if you can borrow one from some one, as switch MAFS, and see if it solves your problem and the other person has it. If you try this, disconnect the + side of your battery first and leave it off while you do this to reset the computer.

Just another couple of idea’s to see if that helps.

Good luck man.

Easy 8)

DarkForce, check your injector o-rings, they might be leaking fuel at idle and flooding your engine, causing it to dip. See if your car is running rich, first and if you get fed up rip those injectors out and see if their leaking or not. Its worth a try isnt it?
Im having the same problem but I havent got around to fixing it yet.

kings_blend - O-rings (thankfully) are totally clean & sealing. Car not appearing to run rich. O2 sensor (and other tune-up items) recently replaced.

sidewaze - I could most definitely see this as a vacuum leak somewhere. Alll the intake stuff looks tight but hey…I will be looking into that ASAP. I kinda hope it is this… (easy fix)

– IACV and it’s hose SEEM okay & clean…but inside could be another story.

– Same thing with the EGR & BPT valves…these might be causing my issues as well, apparently carbon-buildup on these can do it.

– Will ensure correct fuel pressure, pump, and injectors full function.

– Will inspect MAF and intake system…

Thanks guys!! Here’s an engine bay pic in case you see something (don’t mind the 1 disconnected ground wire):

Any other ideas? I’ll keep you up to date, WHEN I get this fixed up, I don’t want a lightened flywheel until I know the computer will catch the falling idle!

I had a weird idle problem a while back that was pinned down to be a loose connection on the intake. Undo and redo all connections along the intake, and check the rubber hose part for any cracks. You can move that part when revving it to try and hear any weird air sounds coming from it.
Also, check your belts, maybe one is loose or something? Hear any sounds? Just a possibility :? .
