lol, honestly, he lived with and played with dogs early growing up (first two+ years) but has been desocialized since we moved. I am sure within a few days he would be back to normal playing with other dogs. But I don’t want to miss-lead anyone into thinking he is dog friendly right off the bat.
At this point I will even probably pay to have him neutered if that is a deal breaker for someone taking him, I really just need to make sure he doesn’t go to a shelter and end up being put down.
lose the nuts, he’ll prob be super mellow for a couple days and just lounging, let babychino crawl and jump all over him in that time and see if it helps. i really couldnt get rid of a dog ive had for 6 years, id def try everything i could first.
If my dog wasn’t 13 and a bitch I would totally adopt this guy. No room right now for two, and I think my old fart of a dog would have a fucking heart attack.
talking with a dog behaviorist they said that neutering at this point while good for his health in the long run will not have an effect on his behavior as he is old enough that all of his behavior has been ingrained. As I suspected they recommend that I cannot safely keep him in my home with the baby, even with extensive in home muzzled training it is not guaranteed fix, which is something that cannot be put up for chance.
If I was in the area, I would probably do everything I could to take him… I would have to have him meet my dog and stuff though, to see how he would do… Sorry dude
contact me before you put him down though…might be able to do SOMETHING
i’ve been speaking with local obedience schools today to try to get their take on the possibility of keeping him in the home and they all say that they are problems that can likely be corrected with long term training, but still would not recommend keeping him around the baby.
yea, that’s the thing at that point you are dealing with two “ignorant parties” where the dog doesn’t fully understand the magnitude of what its doing, and the child doesn’t know any better either. Too many variables with too bad of a possible outcome.
No idea about horses, since he’s never been around one, but I could imagine he’d be pretty confused and shy of that large of an animal.
Dogs like i said, he used to live with and play with other dogs but has been desocialized from them and currently barks at and pulls (when on the leash) towards other dogs. I am pretty confident with introductions and some basic behavioral rework he could get along with other dogs again but I really don’t know. I didn’t expect this turn of events either, but here I am anyways.
As far as rabbits, pretty sure if given the opportunity he would make one dinner. however the rabbits in my backyard typically outsmart him by standing still and then for some reason he thinks they disappeared, at which point i typically facepalm.
That place does amazing things!! I just picked up a puppy from there, he was from KY. His mom was a prego stray and was about to be put to sleep but she had the pups before they did. A pilot flew with his own plane and brought them to the Rochester area. Please before you take him to any shelter, contact them. If they cant help they will find someone who can. Your dog will most likely die in that shelter… do you really want that to happen?
Join the forum and read. There are alot of trainers and a whole shit load of people who have had the same situation you have, they can help you figure out whats best and how to do it. If you want the owners email addy, pm me.
contacted eric (the owner i believe) today to try and get the ball rolling. since i was able to get my parents to take him for a bit I feel like there is more breathing room and i will be able to find someone. he was super happy once i got him over there and he could run around, packing up all of his stuff was tough though
we’ll see what happens but yea, i really do not intend to take him to a shelter, his breed just doesn’t get the same attention and possibilities as other ones at shelters, and it sucks.
Yea Eric is the owner… he should def get back to you soon. I know it sounds gay, but seriuosly thanks for contacting him and not just going to the shelter. I would take yours in a heart beat but I have a 4 yr old pit and just got the puppy. I dont think 3 pits and 3 cats would do well. Even though my cats beat up the one. Good luck and if he doesnt get back to you let me know. I know they are super busy, so if nothing in a couple days, let me know.
