P.S. I think those rims are lame but the rest of the car is hot
it started in germany/belgium. local laws prohibited you from running tread wider than your fender line. it didn’t allow anyone to run any kind of wider wheel or anything with a lower offset. thus the stretch.
i’m with you guys though. it mostly annoys me. i like a little stretch but when you see guys cramming 10" rear wheels in the back with 235’s on them and 9" in the front with 225’s (FWD FTW!), you kinda have to wonder if it’s going too far.

I think the popularity may stem from getting cheap tires for drifting. Less width= less money, and they could still fit them on the big rear wheels. That’s just my theory of course. I can’t remember any laws over there about tires and fenders.
