My ford FE build.

The time has come to start building my 67 F-100. The 352 is getting a little tired and isn’t very happy on 93. As the truck was a toy for one on the NASCAR teams a family memeber worked at and race gas and random parts where plentiful. There isn’t much done to the 352. Cam, exhaust, intake, some custom build carb off a bush car thats a PITA, and the decked the stock heads.

I’ll update this as I pick away at it.
Plans are 500hp/500ft lbs @ crank on pump gas.
I’m going to build the bottom end, then pick away at the top end later on.

Ther truck has a rather fresh C6 I plan to replace the valve body with something much more agressive, but still auto.

The ford 9in will be getting a mini spool, seeing the truck MAYBE sees 200 miles a year.

I got this 390 long block for free. I was told it ran when it was pulled, it just needed a re ring… rrrriiiiiggggghhhhtttt ( see pictures )

I can’t stop laughing at these photos.

Why didn’t you take a valve cover off before you took it?

it probably did run when it was pulled 20 years ago.

It was free, I pulled in tossed it on the trailor and left. I have $0 into it, and I have a ton of FE parts around. All I really want is the block. I don’t see any cracks yet. Worst comes to worse, I scrap it, make a call and get another free block.

I don’t know if this is dirtier or that bimmer motor where the guy didnt change the oil for 50k miles.

ugh,I’d rather weld the spiders than go with a mini spool. A full spool is a much better option and they’re ~$100. I’ve witnessed some pretty slow ass cars break a mini spool (12’s/13’s).

wrong thread?

No you just didn’t read the first post

i bet the lifter bores are rusted beyond belief. depending on how bad it is you might want a different block. At least the crank might be usable

derp, read all of it besides that line. lol

Maybe ill just go full spool then. I don’t plan on using the crank. I want to build a stroker motor. I’ll tear it down some more and see how bad it is.

Damn dude. Ill be following this. My gramps has a car he brought up from fllorida that he wants me to get running again, has the 410 in it

Got the motor down to bare block. 2 pistons had broken rings and after some MC hammer time I got the rusty pistion out. The lifters where susty, but the boores are in great shape. I’ll grab some more pictures tonight before I take it to get hot tanked and fluxed.

What was this in originally? They didn’t make the 390 for many years… I’d kill to have an S-code version.

There was a 390 in my truck, the OE block is in NC at my uncles.
This 390 was pulled out of a 69 F series w/ a 4 speed.

Some how, the water pump is mint. No play, no hard spots. spins freely. Worth saving

Its rusty around the top but the bores are smooth.

Crank is in great shape

This worries me.

Ooof. Deep, or boreable?

I hope I can bore it. It looks like someone has been in the motor before, so I’ll have to measure and make sure it hasn’t been oversized. I don’t really want to go anything more than .050 max.

Did you get this from the bottom of Lake Erie?

No it would have been better preserved down there.
