So this morning I added coolant to the radiator and changed the thermostat on my Elantra and the heat is still coming out cold at times and when its warm its not as warm as it should be.
Now the temp gauge is more towards the cooler side (below the middle) than it was last night. Im not sure if thats really an issue though.
A new thing I discovered- with the car idling the heat isnt all that warm and sometimes goes cold but if I rev the car to about 3500+ and hold it there the heat is blasting hot like it should be.
Theres no bubbles in the radiator and I let the car run for about a half hour.
maybe you got a bad thermostat. it happens. ive taken out a “bad” one before, put in a new one, and it was just as bad, changed it again and was good to go.
Could be you water pump or a cloged heater core. This would make perfect sense on why it works when you rev it to 3500rpm. There could be a semi clog in the heater core and it wont let hot coolant in until you rev it up, the water pump spins faster and pushes the coolant past the clog. Also if the water pump is going it might only be able to push fluid when its spinning really fast.
run a good flusher threw it ya had no coolant in the car last night ya prolly got rust and otherr crap in the core drain it use a chemical flusher on it then redrain and refill it sounds like a plugged core as ya get heat at higher rpm,s so the coolant almost forces its way threw it when at idle it doesent have the pressure to get threw it
i had a similar problem, sometimes while driving i’d get a blast of heat, but most of the time nothing, i changed the heater core, new thermostat, and flushed the coolant a few times…didnt fix it, it ended up being a frozen t-valve.
sounds like you might have a stuck blend door, or a bad control head, your mechanical is fine, you need to be looking under your dash not in your engine bay
ummmm no… he had no coolant in his motor last night like i sad before so if there is no coolant guess what no heat : he has a couple leakin hoses that he needs to fix and the prob sounds like a plugged heater core
The warranty is a joke. It only covers the motor and tranny now and not accessories. Im thinking the heat is considered an accessory. Im pretty sure its just stuff like the internals of the motor that are covered now.
Even the bumper to bumper was a joke.
Anyway I just drove the car to Walmart in Glenville with the heat on and it was blowing hot the whole time and the needle on the gauge was where it normally is.
The blower seemed to slow down a bit when stopped but any time my foot was on the car the heat was blasting and it was much hotter than it was yesterday.
I picked up a coolant flush kit, some flush cleaner stuff and some antifreeze but Im going to see if the heat stays working before I flush it.
