I guess there isn’t enough things for me to do already.
If it’s not the Camaro, then it’s the busiest time at work with college back in.
And to add to that, a few years ago my wife started watching the Food Network and learning new recipes. Now she is cooking new recipes every night, etc. So keeping my promise I told her that I would give her a new kitchen. We do have family and friends over often so it’s going to be worth it.
And meaning new, everything… New cabinets, wall tile, appliances, countertops… Currently my garage is full of kitchen stuff…
So here are some older pics of the remodeled 20 years ago kitchen (around the holidays)
And the current destruction process:
Chiseling off the ceramix tiles that were GLUED on with industrial strenght glue, and then fixing the wall
Kilz the wall
Installing 2 of the newer cabinets. Larger, nicer…
The microwave/vent will go under the center cabinet. There will be a gas oven and an electric cooktop. Those go in very soon.
haha. That is for the garage. If plans go according to plan, I’ll be drywalling it in the spring, painting a racing mural on the back, sealing the floor, and installing a kegerator
The previous kitchen had its issues. We weren’t happy with the cabinets. They are cheaply made. They also were too small. Not enough room for our stuff.
The countertop is shit. It stains easily and the lip is cracking off it.
And the backsplash wasn’t thrilling us.
The oven was a hand me down. The sink is a mess.
So you make money to spend it, so why not. It will be a more spaceous, cleaner, up to date kitchen will all the amenities that my wife wants.
^ that place is awesome, although some of the cabinets may need some repair.

I bought a set of Cherry cabinets with a premium ginger glaze finish. No repairs needed as there are only a couple of scratches on the sides that are hidden. Set of 15 cabinets with 2 huge lazy susan corners came to $2200. Same set at Home Depot would have ran about $7k.
It is a stressful experience, however. It is only open on Saturday’s and you have to get there around 6am. Once there, you take a number and its a lottery to get in early enough to get the good stuff.
Molding is $1-$8 per 8ft. board
Endcaps are $8
Toe kick is $1 per ft.
Single cabinets regardless of size or options run $85-95 each.
refrigerator cabinets are $20 each.
Pantry cabinets are $120-160
There are great deals to be had but you have to be flexible on wood and color choices.

Wow, those are awesome prices. I don’t know if a ride there and the chance of not getting the stuff we needed would be good for the wife. You know how women are, they know what they want and they want it now. it wasn’t too bad for what we got, but not KrafMaid outlet pricing. We got 10% off + at Lowes.

I hear you and luckily don’t have to deal with a wife.
It would be pretty much impossible to go down there and get exactly what you want. I went down with a natural maple in mind and bought a cherry set. A hell of a lot nicer than maple!
The warehouse is full of returns, scratch and dents, and cabinets that were ordered but not paid for.
It’s a 3 hr drive and you must pay and pick up that day. Almost everyone there has a pickup, cube truck, van, or trailer.
Across the street is a new molding outlet that has ridiculous prices on primed pine and MDF molding. It runs about .22 - .50 cents per foot for a standard base or crown molding.
Yeah that mismatched upper/lower just looked like ass. Well, maybe not like ass but relative to the finished project I’m sure it’ll be a huge improvement.
Interesting place for a chimney. Doesn’t look like there’s even room to frame/drywall around it with that doorway so close.
Looks like a good project. I’ll be redoing mine within a year. But none of my doors even shut. All my cabinets were hand made by some hack. All the doors are warped, all the shelves are uneven.
I thought about making my own, but cabinet grade plywood is so effing expensive that there’s no cost benefit.
