Seriosuly for what geek squad charges for OS installs, virus removals, and “Optimiziation”… your better off going out and buying a new computer everytime it fucks up.
People pay it so more power to geek squad in that respect
Oh and I knew a few places about a year or so back forgot the name, but they charged 40-50 dollars to install an OS if the user already had it
you guys charge 120-150 bucks just to install software not including the price of the software itself… thats fucking ridiculous, and the fucked up thing is you make shit outa that
Currently we are charging half what Best Buy (Geek Squad) charges and we considerably lower than local privatly owned companies as well. We need to get our foot in the door and make an impression before we can start charging market prices. So if you need anything done we are who to go to right now.
And another note we are now providing Small business and home Networking services as well.
We are currently building our home site. When that is done we will make it available as a showcase as well. And as our portfolio grows im sure we can get some of those sites listed as well.
So who are you working with ? A few other guys or what?
It will be really hard to start out, but as long as you do a good job, EVERY TIME you will never have a problem. The good thing about website is the referrals are always keeping you in business… just dont fuck anyone over and do everything your best and I think you’ll be fine. its going to take a while before you will get steady business, but until then your going to have to promote what you can do and get in contact with any business that either doesnt have a site or has a crappy one, thats what I had to do when i started out. Then again i had no money to eat food so i was a bit more “forced” to get work than you might be… so i had really no choice
@shawn I was talking about the privately owned pc repair business, and pc upgrade business kinda sucks and is kind of flooded, to mantain a building lease or whatever, plus all the overhead and employee payroll, advertising insurance and stock products etc thats alot of fuckin shit for pc repairs, its not like you have people at the door dying to get their ram installed lol yano ?
So as far as that goes i would say hardware upgrades/repair is not the best business to get into right now, but if your doing web design, networking, programming, all under one roof then thats another story because then maybe you will have a chance to make in a week what you’ll make at geek squad, maybe
it doesnt make sense to me to open a shop for that yet, thats a huge waste of money each month, the only real reason this business is so easy to get into because you can truely do it yourself and from home
haha Thats what I said, and im still charging 1/4 of the price for sites … oh well
He is saying that web design and comp. repair are both equally IT jobs. Just because one thing is harder… doesn’t make the other thing less of a job…
:umm
A lot of the hardware stuff is so popular/easy, that a lot of people tackle it themselves or know someone. But, like any business, it’s a huge risk and you deal with the typical business failures that every business has.
I haven’t met too many hardware upgrade/repair guys that make anywhere near network/developers.
I am also not sure what geek squad employees made but I made about $1,500-$1,800 per week doing just programming in Albany.
Web Design is also misleading as in the past that was the “artistic” side to web development whereas that role is really more of a development aspect now with the applications/tools available in today’s market.
I am on the same stand as GrandMassa in that you basically need a 4 year education for most development jobs whereas most hardware upgrade/repairs can be done by someone with some ITT education. Huge difference. On the flip side, I doubt a geek squad member is going to be able to talk about neural networks but take a developer and ask him to install a CPU/RAM and he should be ok (I hope).
Well Website is just one venue that we have. And we have a LOT of venues we are working on. By Sept. 09’ we will have twice as many areas that we will be working in. They include Hosted Operations, Networking and Systems Design, Server Administration, Website Design, PC Repair and Maintenance, and lastly Computer Literacy lessons. And thats why we are starting small now. We have to save a TON of money for our official launch in Sept. Even if we made good money before then it will only be a dent in our initial start-up costs.
Try and get a few contract jobs too, especialy if you can find state ones, they pay good and you will get a lot of “word of mouth” recognization if you will because they deal with so many people.
but seriously good luck with the startup man, when you guys are ready to expand a little bit I myself and a few others on here im sure would be willing to consider a decent job…
yea i agree, but its not so much what you know, if it was like that i would be making alot more money ahaha
but really its who you know and what official documents you can show for what you know, but even still you can get by without any of that, just being a good people person will get you anywhere you want to go
